Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

Create opportunities for high-potential students from low-income households to define their individual path through high school, college, and career.

  • Access College programming begins after a selective admissions process at the end of 10th grade, and assists high school students with college admissions and financial aid through tutoring, workshops, and one-on-one counseling.

    Expenses $234,037

  • Access Career programming runs from the second year of college through college graduation and beyond (via alumni programming) to ensure students make a successful transition from college to career. During college, the organization supports students with career development through a summer career readiness bootcamp, speaker series, cohort meetings covering a variety of career readiness topics, networking events with the community of donors and supporters, and personalized career counseling and guidance. Networking opportunities and personalized career counseling and guidance are also available to alumni upon request.

    Expenses $332,057 · Grants $143,244

  • The Social and Emotional Learning program runs throughout the course of Access Opportunity's 6-year program and is led by a team of social workers and counselors who provide direct service to students via one-on-one counseling and check-ins, as well as through group sessions. A particular focus of the SEL program is to support first-generation-to-college students with navigating the transition into college and identifying campus resources in order to help ensure that students make a successful transition from high school to college. The SEL program also includes a peer mentorship program as well as family engagement programming that partners and shares resources with families on their students' goals so they feel empowered to help their students reach those goals.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
