Mission and programs · 2023
Mission
To resolve the most important problems of low income and other vulnerable people by providing high quality legal assistance through direct representation, education, advice, advocacy and coordination with other community resources.
-
We provide civil legal assistance at no charge to low-income families with children, the elderly, veterans and people needing access to healthcare. The people we serve often live with the risk of losing something be it their home, job, health, safety or independence. We target people living in violence, people with an impediment to family stabilization, those who cannot find stable employment and families at risk for homelessness. Through the legal system, we can preserve the home, protect assets, stop the violence, remove employment barriers, and support families towards the goal of achieving maximum independence and safety. Last year we reached over 51,725 people, advocated for nearly 12,500 and provided legal representation to 25,752. Private attorneys donated $584,640 in services to our clients.LEGAL AID OF THE BLUEGRASS (LABG) LABG completed a legal needs assessment in 2021 which found that the elderly and veterans are among the most vulnerable populations we serve. The assessment also found that family law continues to be one of the most highly ranked legal issues, including domestic/interpersonal violence protection orders.LABG Focused Reach 2023: LABG reached 51,725 of its target population through direct services or outreach. Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
