Brown Boys Read inspires the love of reading through the love of running to help boys and young men improve reading proficiency, combat childhood obesity, and develop healthier lifestyles and leadership skills. In 2025, the program impacted 328 boys and young men in grades 5 through 12 in partnership with 100 Kings of Middle Tennessee. Participants engaged in a summer reading experience that combined guided book discussions with mentors and healthy walk/run activities, creating an innovative approach to literacy, mentorship, and wellness. The program encouraged participants to strengthen reading comprehension, build confidence, and develop positive relationships with community leaders and mentors. The program concluded with participants joining Demetrius Short and 677 runners in the 15th Annual Steps of Success 5K, reinforcing the importance of perseverance, healthy living, and creating a pathway to success.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
