Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

GSAFE CREATES JUST SCHOOLS FOR LGBTQ+ YOUTH IN WISCONSIN. WE DO THIS BY: DEVELOPING THE LEADERSHIP OF LGBTQ+ YOUTH; SUPPORTING GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCES; TRAINING EDUCATORS; ADVANCING EDUCATIONAL JUSTICE; AND DEEPENING RACIAL, GENDER, TRANS, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE.

Activities or mission (Part I)

GSAFE STRIVES TO ASSURE THAT EACH MEMBER OF EVERY SCHOOL COMMUNITY IS VALUED AND RESPECTED REGARDLESS OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION OR GENDER IDENTITY/EXPRESSION. WE BELIEVE THAT SUCH AN ATMOSPHERE ENGENDERS A POSITIVE SENSE OF SELF, WHICH IS THE BASIS OF EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AND PERSONAL GROWTH. SINCE HOMOPHOBIA AND HETEROSEXISM UNDERMINE A HEALTHY SCHOOL CLIMATE, WE WORK TO EDUCATE TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC AT LARGE ABOUT THE DAMAGING EFFECTS THESE FORCES HAVE ON YOUTH AND ADULTS ALIKE. WE RECOGNIZE THAT FORCES SUCH AS RACISM AND SEXISM HAVE SIMILARLY ADVERSE IMPACTS ON COMMUNITIES AND WE SUPPORT SCHOOLS IN SEEKING TO REDRESS ALL SUCH INEQUITIES. GSAFE SEEKS TO DEVELOP SCHOOL CLIMATES WHERE DIFFERENCE IS VALUED FOR THE POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION IT MAKES IN CREATING A MORE VIBRANT AND DIVERSE COMMUNITY. WE WELCOME ANY AND ALL INDIVIDUALS, REGARDLESS OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER IDENTITY/EXPRESSION OR OCCUPATION, WHO ARE COMMITTED TO SEEING THIS PHILOSOPHY REALIZED IN K-12 SCHOOLS.

  • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT-GSAFE WORKS TO DEVELOP THE LEADERSHIP OF K-12 STUDENTS AND THEIR ADULT ALLIES TO CREATE SCHOOLS WHERE LGBTQ+ YOUTH ARE SAFE, AFFIRMED, AND ABLE TO THRIVE. UTILIZING AN INTERSECTIONAL LENS THAT INCORPORATES BOTH RACIAL JUSTICE AND TRANSGENDER JUSTICE, GSAFE DEVELOPS THE LEADERSHIP OF LGBTQ+ YOUTH THROUGH A FOUNDATIONS OF LEADERSHIP COURSE, A SUMMER LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE CAMP, A YOUTH LEADERSHIP BOARD, DAY-LONG AND REGIONAL CONFERENCES FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, SUPPORT TO STUDENT-LED CLUBS, AND ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONSULTATION WITH AND FOR EDUCATORS AND SCHOOL LEADERS ACROSS WISCONSIN.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
