Mission

Through radical, no-strings-attached giving, EGC disrupts systemic inequality by funding community-led projects, including sustainable food security programs, housing support, and wellness initiatives

Activities or mission (Part I)

Equitable Giving Circle (EGC) is a Portland-based, Black women-led organization dedicated to achieving economic equity by building Black community wealth and fostering healing. Through radical, no-strings-attached giving, EGC disrupts systemic inequality by funding community-led projects, including sustainable food security programs, housing support, and wellness initiatives

  • Income instability very often leads to food insecurity. Our approach to addressing this issue is two fold: Purchase CSA shares from Portland's BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) farming community. Gift CSA shares to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) families experiencing food insecurity who are not currently being served by the social services networks. The second tier of our food justice programming is our weekly pop up pantry or free farmers market. We host this free weekly food event on Thursdays from 10-2pm at our work space: This is a weekly access point of fresh produce, high quality pantry and protein items and more for BIPOC Portlanders.

    Expenses $763,415 · Revenue $204,453

  • The second arm of our work is direct actions of how we can learn, grow, and reclaim lost traditions in a way of addressing community wellness. For us it looks like the following programming: Healthy Birth Healthy Families, Plant Jam, Care Packages, and Holiday/Earth Day/Back TO School/ Mama's Day Special Projects. Examples: Black Maternal Health, backpacks, joy boxes, and period products Monthly Educational series: lunch + learn, happy hour discussion, monthly money talk Community Events

    Expenses $130,610 · Revenue $60,000

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
