Mission

ARIZONA OPERA ELEVATES THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF STORYTELLING THROUGH MUSIC - CULTIVATING COMMUNITY AND STRENGTHENING A STATE AND PEOPLE AS ADVENTUROUS AND DIVERSE AS THE PLACE THEY CALL HOME.

  • ARIZONA OPERA'S 2022/23 SEASON INCLUDED FIVE FULLY STAGED IN-THEATER PRODUCTIONS, AS WELL AS A NUMBER OF EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS THAT EXTENDED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE FALL OF 2022 FEATURED TWO IN-THEATER PRODUCTIONS AS PART OF THE MCDOUGALL RED SERIES, PERFORMED AT THE HERBERGER THEATER CENTER IN PHOENIX AND THE TEMPLE OF MUSIC AND ART IN TUCSON. THE TWO RED SERIES OFFERINGS WERE REDLER AND DYE'S THE FALLING AND THE RISING, WHICH FOCUSES ON THE US MILITARY VETERAN EXPERIENCE; AND STRAUSS'S ARIADNE AUF NAXOS. FROM JANUARY THROUGH APRIL OF 2023, ARIZONA OPERA PRESENTED THREE OPERAS IN ITS MAIN STAGE SERIES, PERFORMED AT SYMPHONY HALL IN PHOENIX AND THE LINDA RONSTADT MUSIC HALL IN TUCSON. THE THREE MAIN STAGE SERIES OFFERINGS WERE PUCCINI'S TOSCA, ROGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN'S THE SOUND OF MUSIC, AND MOZART'S THE MAGIC FLUTE. IN ADDITION TO IN-THEATER PRODUCTIONS, ARIZONA OPERA'S NEXTGEN INITIATIVE CONTINUED ITS FOCUS ON DEVELOPING THE NEXT GENERATION OF OPERA ARTISTS AND AUDIENCES, INCLUDING A ROBUST SCHEDULE OF K-12 EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, AND TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR EMERGING PROFESSIONALS. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDED OUR IN-SCHOOL ARLYN M. BREWSTER OPERATUNITY TOUR THAT REACHES APPROXIMATELY 40,000 CHILDREN PER YEAR THROUGHOUT THE STATE AND OUR STUDENT PREVIEW PERFORMANCES IN THE THEATER; OUR ELITE TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG SINGERS AND THEATER TECHNICIANS, INCLUDING THE MARION ROOSE PULLIN STUDIO AND THE PRODUCTION APPRENTICE PROGRAMS, WHICH GIVE SINGERS, PIANISTS, STAGE DIRECTORS, AND PRODUCTION TECHNICIANS THE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THEY NEED TO LAUNCH THEIR CAREERS; AND A WIDE VARIETY OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES THAT ALLOW US TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY IN THE MOST FULSOME WAY POSSIBLE, WHETHER ONE BRAND NEW TO OPERA, OR A LIFELONG FAN. Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
