Mission and programs · 2023
Mission
Fuerza Laboral is a workers' rights center whose mission is to shift the balance of power in our economy in favor of workers by educating, training, and organizing workers to become community leaders; taking direct action to recover unpaid wages and improve workplace conditions; organizing to win institutional changes that will better prevent injustices; and, with our Cooperative Incubator Project, constructing a network of cooperative-owned businesses that will provide living wage employment as an alternative to the low- wage, exploitative jobs typically reserved for immigrants and people of color
-
Fuerza Laboral is focused on improving the working conditions of low-income Rhode Islanders. In 2023 we In 2023 we provided labor rights consultation to over 100 individuals, workers-rights trainings to local allied community organizations, job-readiness computer classes to over 50 individuals, and supported, launched, or transitioned 19 worker-owned cooperative businesses. We are in the process of launching a construction co-op and researching viability of a childcare cooperative

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
