Mission and programs · 2025

Mission

TO PROVIDE A TRUSTING ENVIRONMENT THAT PROMOTES EMOTIONAL WELLNESS AND STABILITY BY EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS THROUGH ADVOCACY DIRECT RESPONSE TO DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL ABUSE AND SUPPORT SERVICES THAT STRENGTHEN FAMILIES.

  • MUJER, INC. IS A CERTIFIED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT CENTER SERVING SOUTH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE, TRAUMA-INFORMED CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, STALKING, AND RELATED FORMS OF VICTIMIZATION. SERVICES INCLUDE A 24-HOUR SEXUAL ASSAULT HELPLINE, CRISIS INTERVENTION, VICTIM ADVOCACY, CASE MANAGEMENT, THERAPY, SUPPORT GROUPS, INFORMATION AND REFERRAL, SAFETY PLANNING, EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE, AND LEGAL AND MEDICAL ACCOMPANIMENT. MUJER SERVES INDIVIDUALS OF ALL AGES, WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON LOW-INCOME, IMMIGRANT, FARMWORKER, AND UNDERSERVED FAMILIES. DURING 2025, MUJER PROVIDED DIRECT SERVICES TO MORE THAN 800 FAMILIES AND REACHED OVER 5,000 COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH OUTREACH, EDUCATION, PREVENTION INITIATIVES, HEALTH FAIRS, COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS, AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS, AND COLLABORATIVE EVENTS THROUGHOUT SOUTH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY. THE ORGANIZATION MAINTAINED A 24/7 SEXUAL ASSAULT HELPLINE AND CONTINUED TO PROVIDE IMMEDIATE CRISIS RESPONSE AND ADVOCACY SERVICES TO SURVIVORS IN NEED. COMMUNITY OUTREACH EFFORTS FOCUSED ON INCREASING AWARENESS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, AND AVAILABLE COMMUNITY RESOURCES. A SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT IN 2025 WAS THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATION OF THE HEALING SANCTUARY, A 32,000-SQUARE-FOOT COORDINATED VICTIM ASSISTANCE CENTER ESTABLISHED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KRISTI HOUSE. THE HEALING SANCTUARY BRINGS TOGETHER MULTIPLE SERVICE PROVIDERS IN ONE LOCATION TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO COMPREHENSIVE, WRAPAROUND SERVICES FOR SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THIS INNOVATIVE MODEL ENHANCES COLLABORATION AMONG VICTIM SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS AND REDUCES BARRIERS TO CARE FOR INDIVIDUALS SEEKING SUPPORT. MUJER ALSO MAINTAINED ACTIVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH MORE THAN 15 COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, INCLUDING LEGAL AID PROVIDERS, HEALTHCARE PARTNERS, SHELTERS, AND SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES, TO ENSURE SURVIVORS HAD ACCESS TO COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT SERVICES. THROUGH THESE COLLABORATIONS, SURVIVORS RECEIVED ASSISTANCE WITH LEGAL MATTERS, HOUSING, IMMIGRATION CONCERNS, COUNSELING, HEALTHCARE ACCESS, AND EMERGENCY NEEDS. IN ADDITION TO MEASURABLE OUTCOMES, MUJER'S IMPACT IS REFLECTED IN INCREASED SURVIVOR SAFETY, EMOTIONAL HEALING, FAMILY STABILIZATION, IMPROVED ACCESS TO JUSTICE, AND STRENGTHENED COMMUNITY AWARENESS REGARDING VIOLENCE PREVENTION. MANY SURVIVORS WHO ENTERED SERVICES IN CRISIS WERE ABLE TO DEVELOP SAFETY PLANS, ACCESS COUNSELING AND ADVOCACY SERVICES, OBTAIN PROTECTIVE RESOURCES, AND BEGIN REBUILDING THEIR LIVES. MUJER'S CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE AND BILINGUAL APPROACH CONTINUES TO FOSTER TRUST WITHIN HISTORICALLY UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, AS DEMONSTRATED BY THE ORGANIZATION'S STRONG COMMUNITY REPUTATION AND HIGH RATE OF DIRECT WALK-IN CLIENTS SEEKING ASSISTANCE.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
