Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

RACE Cancer Foundation fights cancer through action and prevention. Our running events promote health and wellness in the community, reducing the risk of cancer while raising funds and awareness for organizations dedicated to fighting cancer. Their programs create opportunities to reduce and detect cancer through education, prevention, and screening measures. RACE Cancer's Sunscreen Squad fights skin cancer by bringing free sunscreen dispensers to outdoor events across New England.

  • RACE Cancer Foundation produced races and running challenges engaging over 2,000+ individuals. The 2022 edition of the Super Sunday 5 Miler was able to return as an in person event after being virtual only. Additional events included our Winter Challenge, Summer Series races, Oktoberfest 5k, and Charles River Marathon. Staying physically fit reduces the incidence of many types of cancer and has a positive impact on the lives of cancer survivors.

    Expenses $145,510 · Revenue $113,880

  • RACE Cancer Foundation donated $11,170 to cancer and health focused charities from funds raised via races and running challenges. Donations included $10,250 to Mass General Hospital Cancer Center, whose mission is to advance knowledge and rapidly translate discovery into exceptional, personalized cancer care for their patients. $420 was donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the #1 voluntary health organization in the United States for people living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.

    Expenses $11,170 · Grants $11,170

  • In addition to its own events, Race Cancer Foundation's Sunscreen Squad distributed sunscreen at the Boulderthon, a race in Boulder, Colorado with over 4,000 entrants, Boston Calling music festival, and at the start of the Boston Marathon.

    Expenses $4,030

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
