Mission and programs · 2022
Mission
Our mission is to provide a local food system that supports regenerative and sustainable farming practices by increasing access to local food for North Lake Tahoe.By addressing local food access challenges at a systems level, we create a hub for local food. A local food system benefits diversified, family farms looking for fair market opportunities while increasing access to local food for our mountain community. Our goal is to create a more just and sovereign food system. One that is fair for the soil, farmer and our community. Regenerative farming practices allow farmers to sequester carbon into the soil, mitigating climate change. These practices create soils that are drought tolerant and yield crops with higher nutrient levels than conventional farming.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Through our farmer network, we have built a strong, local food system and connected our community with Tahoes close proximity to year-round, food production. We offer a variety of programs to educate our community on the environmental, economic and social benefits of a local food system. Our food hubs earned income model supports our other programs and services. Giving Box ProgramoProvides fresh, local produce to North Lake Tahoe families facing food insecurity. Farm to School Program oProvides place-based education and hands-on learning to teach students the importance of local food and sustainable agriculture. Farmer Resiliency Fund oProvides funding to farmers in need of technical and business-related assistance to ensure their farms viability. Forever FarmsoPreserves agricultural land in partnership with agricultural stakeholders in Nevada and Placer County

The Farm to Market Program (F2M) promotes the sourcing and consumption of regionally-produced and sustainably grown foods. The program represents small-scale producers within 100-miles of North Lake Tahoe to ensure they get a fair price and to share their story with the end consumer. A regional marketplace increases the distribution outlets for small producers and literally creates a hub for farms and markets to sell and buy local food. It brings this good food into the places where people are most often eating and buying food like restaurants, grocery stores, schools and hospitals.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
