Mission

The mission of the United Way of the Wine Country is to improve financial stability for all families throughout our service area by activating local businesses, inspiring individual investment, advancing community collaboratives, and influencing public policy.

Activities or mission (Part I)

United Way of the Wine Country has evolved into an organization focused on: advancingfinancial and racial equity; fundraising and community investments; and cultivating community initiatives. We believe these are the building blocks for a community where everyone can live a beautiful, hopeful, and prosperous life. Everything we do is grounded in building equity in our community, with the goal of advancing real social change. For over 55 years, United Way of the Wine Country has been working to support sustainable improvements to systems and services that benefit all residents in our shared communities. We proudly serve families and individuals living and working in Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt and Del Norte counties and remain deeply committed to improving family financial stability by serving as a vital link between residents, nonprofit organizations, businesses and government leaders.

  • Funding for 2-1-1 helped to connect over 63,000 Sonoma County callers and texters with information about health and human services available to them. Funding for the new 2-1-1 Mendocino platform helped staff the 2-1-1 Steering Committee, launch a new website, update the database, and serve 680 residents. 2-1-1 Humboldt funding provided organizational capacity support to help maintain 24/7 information and referral services for this rural community.

    Expenses $705,511 · Grants $155,583

  • Funding for the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! free tax assistance program enabled 17 nonprofit agencies to provide tax filing services to 5,400+ low-to-moderate income individuals and families resulting in over $8.2 million in tax refunds and credits to residents in Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake and Humboldt counties.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
