Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

EDUCATE, ENGAGE AND ORGANIZE YOUNG MONTANANS TO SHAPE THEIR DEMOCRACY TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF FELLOW MONTANANS.

  • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENTIn 2022, we graduated over 28 community organizing fellows and high school fellows from across the state. Fellows go through a robust curriculum that provides weekly training on community organizing and civic engagement. Fellows lead on a final project that connects their interests to meaningful change in their communities.

    Expenses $312,479

  • STRENGTHENING DEMOCRACYFoward Montana Foundation engaged young Montanans during the state redistricting process to advocate for fair maps. We also were a plaintiff in a voting rights trial; in early fall the District Court sided with us and struck down the laws in question.

    Expenses $93,067

  • VOTER REGISTRATION AND MOBILIZATIONForward Montana Foundation registered 2,903 voters, through in-person and online tactics. You could reliably find our staff and volunteers with clipboards in hand registering Montanans to vote at farmers markets, campuses, concerts, and state-wide events. Most notably, we hosted National Voter Registration Day in 23 locations across the state. Ahead of the general election, Forward Montana Foundation collaborated with partners to staff a voter hotline to answer questions about voter registration, in-person and absentee voting, and voter identification requirements. On Election Day, staff supported long lines in Missoula, Gallatin, and Yellowstone Counties by handing out hot chocolate and snacks to voters.

    Expenses $53,783

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
