Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

The Skutik River Restoration Trust's mission is to restore the health of the Skutik River and its watershed for the Passamaquoddy Tribe, its members, and all people who enjoy the watershed. To advance policies and projects to restore the health of the river, including restoring sea-run fish populations, and educate people on the benefits of a healthy Skutik River for people and wildlife throughout the watershed.

Activities or mission (Part I)

We will develop and advocate for policies and projects to advance Skutik River restoration, educate and communicate to build awareness to broaden public-private support for watershed health, and, on a limited basis, advocate for legislation to support funding and actions for river restoration.

  • Skutik Trust continued to build organizational capacity to achieve its long-term mission to restore the health of the Skutik River and its watershed. We continued to develop operational procedures and strategic priorities. We identified needs for key expertise and staff to meet our mission and planned to build such capacity in the near term.We participated in key discussions with federal, tribal and state and organizational partners related to restoring fish passage to the Skutik watershed, including the progress and implementation of planned and ongoing projects to improve sea-run fish passage. We planned for increasing engagement in restoration-related monitoring and research at various locations in the watershed. (See schedule O for continuation) Skutik Trust also continued to monitor specific licensing proceedings at locations in the upper watershed. Combined these activities comprised about 65 percent of our activity.Skutik Trust also worked to raise awareness of the importance of the Skutik River watershed, embarking on the design and development of a website, developing materials on river restoration issues and planning outreach activities. We fostered relationships with diverse stakeholders in Skutik River restoration by helping plan and participate in local events and programs to raise awareness of the importance of river restoration and awareness of the annual migration of herring, American shad and other sea-run fish species between the sea and inland waters. We engaged with people watershed-wide and beyond, ranging from individuals to community groups to regional organizations, to build long-term, sustained support, funding and collaboration to restore the Skutik River.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
