Mission and programs · 2022
Mission
Our mission is to transport victims of domestic abuse to safety. We provide transportation to shelter or reunite with family far away. Our vision is to create healthy communities by ending abuse across America.
-
Ride to Safety: Families to Freedom provides free car/van rides to arrive at a secure domestic violence crisis centers, and rides to relocate to family or to housing far away. We have two Texas offices located in Dallas and Houston serving victims calling from a combined service area of 72 urban and rural counties. In 2022 we transported 688 victims and their 603 children for a total of 1,291 people. Our volunteers and staff embarked on 612 trips arriving to domestic violence shelters, plus 43 road-trips to a family home in another state. Shelter arrivals usually only incur fuel costs while multi-state road trips incur a variety of travel costs (fuel + food + overnight lodging + vehicle maintenance + misc).
Expenses $377,272
-
Ticket to Ride: We provided sheltered survivors the means to relocate to family and friends by bus, Amtrak or commercial flight 87 times in 2022. In addition to purchasing a ticket for long-distance travel, we also provide a free ride to the bus station or airport (bus tickets + commercial flight tickets + train tickets). For many of our clients we upgraded their luggage from trash bags to suitcases and travel bags donated from the community.
Expenses $97,013
-
Fuel Assistance (fuel) is available for victims and new survivors who have a vehicle but can?t afford the cost of gas to drive far away to family or friends for support after domestic violence. We gave 89 fuel cards to new survivors in 2022 who were able to get far away from their abusers. For many of our clients we also gave donated food gift cards to help survivors afford meals during their long journey.
Expenses $64,675

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
