Mission
SEE SCHEDULE O FOR EXPLANATION.
Activities or mission (Part I)
THE MISSION OF ARTISTS HELPING THE HOMELESS IS TO REDUCE THE NEED AND COST OF CARE FOR THE HOMELESS IN OUR COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING AID WITH RESPECT; ADDRESSING UNDERLYING ISSUES; PROVIDING ADVOCACY FOR THOSE IN NEED; WORKING WITH, RATHER THAN DUPLICATING EXISTING SERVICES; AND RAISING AWARENESS OF HOMELESS CHALLENGES.
-
AHH ASSISTED 1,542 PEOPLE FROM ALL SEGMENTS OF THE UNHOUSED POPULATION IN OUR COMMUNITIES WITH A VARIETY OF SERVICES TAILORED TO THE PERSON'S NEEDS. DISCHARGE PLANNING ACCOUNTED FOR THE MAJORITY OF THOSE ASSISTED. GENERALLY, AT THE REQUEST OF CASE WORKERS, AHH STAFF TRAVELS TO THE FACILITY TO PERFORM A NEEDS ASSESSMENT, ARRANGE OR ASSIST IN FINDING PLACEMENT, TRANSPORT THE PERSON AND ASSURE ADMISSION WITH A WARM HAND-OFF WHICH MIGHT INCLUDE HELP WITH GETTING IDS, MEDICATION OR CLOTHING. WHEN WARRANTED, STAFF FOLLOWED UP WITH ADDITIONAL SERVICES TOWARD THE PERSON'S OBJECTIVE. AND ABBREVIATED VERSION OF DISCHARGE PLANNING SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO PEOPLE AND CASE MANAGERS WHO CALL, BUT DO NOT REQUIRE DIRECT ASSISTANCE. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O, PAGE 3)RESIDENTIAL SERVICES HOUSED 238 MEN, AN AVERAGE OF 61 EACH NIGHT. MOST HAD JOBS, WERE IN JOB-TRAINING OR ATTENDING SCHOOLS IN THE MONTH FOLLOWING AN INITIAL 30-DAY PERIOD TO CLEAR MINDS, TAKE INVENTORY AND MAKE RECOVERY PLANS. THE HOUSES PROVIDE FOOD, BASIC NEEDS AND A CLEAN AND SOBER ENVIRONMENT WITH PEER SUPPORT, FREE OF CHARGE. RESIDENTS ATTEND RECOVERY MEETINGS, ALL COURT MANDATED EVENTS, GROUP COUNSELING AND COPING/LIFE SKILLS SESSIONS. RESIDENTS MAY PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY SERVICE, PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SOCIAL REINTEGRATION ACTIVITES. TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED TO THOSE EVENTS, JOBS AND SCHOOLS, FREE OF CHARGE. A MEDICAL/DENTAL CLINIC STAFFED BY THE HEALTH OUTREACH FOUNDATION, INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING, LEGAL AID AND OTHER SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS. THE RESPITE HOUSES ALLOW MEN WHO LACK RESOURCES TO IDENTIFY, ACCESS AND FOLLOW THROUGH WITH SERVICES A CHANGE TO HIT THE "RESET BUTTON AND FOCUS ON THEIR RECOVERY. THE 11% RECURRANCE RATE POSTED BY RESIDENTS IN 2023 COMPARES FAVORABLY WITH TYPICAL FIRST YEAR RATES OF RECURRANCE (40% TO 60% PER NIDA). OUTCOMES ARE ALSO HIGH. ALMOST 90% OF RESIDENTS HAVE JOBS AND MOVE ON TO THEIR OWN PLACE, JOIN FRIENDS OR FAMILY OR ENTER A TRANSITIONAL HOUSE, TREATMENT OR ANOTHER PROGRAM. OVER A THIRD OF PEOPLE WHOSE DEPARTURE IS CONSIDERED UNSATISFACTORY RETURN TO THE PROGRAM. RESIDENTS ENTERED CAREERS IN ENGINEERING, BANKING, CONSTRUCTION, MANUFACTURING AND SOCIAL WORK, TO NAME A FEW.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
