Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
To identify, research, analyze, and pursue solutions to problems of consumer protection, environmental protection and preservation, corporate and governmental responsibility to the public, and other issues affecting the social welfare of the people of Connecticut and elsewhere. To cooperate with other citizen action groups and other organizations on problems of common concern to the people of Connecticut and elsewhere. To pursue any other public interest goals not in conflict with the laws of the state of Connecticut nor the Internal Revenue Code section under which the organization is established and operated.
Activities or mission (Part I)
When consumers are cheated or the voices of ordinary citizens are drowned out by special interest lobbyists, ConnPIRG speaks up and takes action. We uncover threats to public health and wellbeing and fight to end them, using the time-tested tools of investigative research, media exposés, grassroots organizing, advocacy, and litigation.
-
Researching and influencing public policy: staff engage in legislative activities including research, education, and policy development to stop the pollution from single-use plastics, promote consumer protection by strengthening regulations around product safety and working to give citizens the right to repair their own devices.
Expenses $4,279
-
Public education and outreach: recruiting volunteers, distributing educational literature, conducting surveys and discussing issues with the public to stop the pollution from single-use plastics, promote consumer protection by strengthening regulations around product safety and working to give citizens the right to repair their own devices.
Expenses $12,021

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
