Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

The mission of the Foundation is to provide grants to non-profit organizations that serve the legal and related needs of women and girls in the DC metropolitan area.

Activities or mission (Part I)

See Schedule O

  • The WBA Foundation leverages the generosity of lawyers and friends to support nonprofits that serve the legal and related needs of women or girls in the DC Metropolitan community. Funds are raised through direct donations and events, including an Annual Dinner co-sponsored with the Women's Bar Association of the District of Columbia

    Expenses $152,324 · Revenue $159,361

  • The WBA Foundation holds events such as the Wine Tasting & Silent Auction, to raise funds for the grant program. The Foundation also participates in online fundraising campaigns, including DoMore24 and Giving Tuesday. A traditional year-end appeal campaign is also conducted.

    Expenses $30,524 · Revenue $76,124

  • Each spring, the grantees for that year are recognized and awarded their checks at the Grant Awards Ceremony. Grantees and Foundation leaders are interviewed at this event to produce a grantee video highlighting the grantees and the need for support. Each grant request is evaluated on its own merits and in comparison to the other projects being funded, and other grant requests being considered, by the WBAF in that year. In addition, the WBAF founders fellowship supports area law students to work with local legal services providers on projects to benefit women and girls in our community.

    Expenses $114,871 · Grants $82,497 · Revenue $15,697

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
