Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

To provide equal access to justice and due process to indigent immigrants facing removal proceedings.

  • Removal Defense: The Immigrant Legal Defense Center (ILDC) provides free legal representation to indigent immigrants residing in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo Counties who are facing removal proceedings. The organization handles a full range of defenses for both detained individuals and those fighting their cases after release. The majority of clients served are unaccompanied immigrant children and undocumented youth. In 2024, ILDC provided representation to more than 300 individuals, ensuring access to justice and due process for some of the region's most vulnerable residents.

    Expenses $810,365

  • Our clinical therapists and case managers advocate for the best interests of our clients both inside and outside the immigration courtroom, focusing on mitigating the trauma-related impacts of immigration policies and enforcement. This program addresses the urgent mental health needs of immigrant families, connecting them with vital resources to support healing and stability. Through compassionate, trauma-informed care, ILDC helps clients enhance their well-being, build resilience, and thrive in their new communities. In 2024, ILDC provided case management and clinical services to 124 individuals. These individuals have demonstrated measurable improvements in their mental and physical well-being as a result of consistent case management and counseling support.

    Expenses $185,662

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
