Mission

MONTANA CONSERVATION VOTERS PROTECTS OUR CLEAN AIR, CLEAN WATER, PUBLIC LANDS AND DEMOCRACY BY SUPPORTING LEADERS WHO FIGHT FOR THESE RIGHTS AND BY HOLDING ACCOUNTABLE LEADERS WHO DO NOT.

Activities or mission (Part I)

MONTANA CONSERVATION VOTERS WORKS TO PROTECT OUR CLEAN AIR, CLEAN WATER, PUBLIC LANDS AND DEMOCRACY.

  • VOTER EDUCATION AND STATE LEGISLATIVE SESSION:MCV PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN MONTANA'S LEGISLATIVE PROCESS. EACH LEGISLATIVE SESSION, WE MEET WITH LEGISLATORS AND SERVE AS A RESOURCE TO THEM ON CONSERVATION, ENERGY, AND DEMOCRACY ISSUES. AS THE CONVENER OF THE CONSERVATION WORKING GROUP WITH OUR SISTER ORGANIZATION, THE MCV EDUCATION FUND, MCV LEADS THE CONSERVATION COMMUNITY'S EFFORTS TO ENSURE THAT ELECTED LEADERS UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES, HEAR THE CONCERNS OF MONTANANS AND KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF VOTING IN ALIGNMENT WITH MCV'S PRIORITIES. DURING THE SESSION, WE ALSO LEAD EFFORTS TO EDUCATE AND MOBILIZE MONTANANS ON OUR POLICY PRIORITIES. AFTER THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION CONCLUDES, MCV RELEASES ITS ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE SCORECARD TO CELEBRATE MONTANA'S CONSERVATION AND DEMOCRACY CHAMPIONS AND HOLD ALL OTHERS ACCOUNTABLE. DURING OFF-SESSION YEARS, MCV FOLLOWS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LAWS THROUGH THE REGULATORY PROCESS AND PROVIDES COMMENTS TO AGENCIES AND OTHER DECISION MAKERS WHEN RELEVANT. WE EDUCATE VOTERS ON THE RECORDS OF CANDIDATES IN ELECTIONS AT EVERY LEVEL BY ENDORSING CANDIDATES THAT ALIGN WITH OUR VALUES AND DISSEMINATING ENDORSEMENT GUIDES TO OUR SUPPORTERS.

    Expenses $161,201 · Grants $109,000

  • CONSERVATION POLICY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:PROTECTING CLEAN AIR, CLEAN WATER, PUBLIC LANDS, AND DEMOCRACY ARE MCV'S TOP PRIORITIES. MCV HOLDS ELECTED LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE TO PROTECTING MONTANA'S ICONIC LANDSCAPES AND OUTDOOR WAY OF LIFE BY RALLYING SUPPORT FOR POLICIES THAT INVEST IN AND PROTECT CONSERVATION OF OUR PUBLIC LANDS, WILDLIFE, AIR AND WATER. WE CALL OUT LEADERS WHO DO NOT FOLLOW THROUGH ON THEIR CONSERVATION COMMITMENTS AND CELEBRATE THOSE WHO CHAMPION OUR ISSUES. MCV ALSO RECOGNIZES THAT PROTECTING EVERY MONTANANS' RIGHT TO VOTE IS CRITICAL TO MAINTAINING OUR WAY OF LIFE AND HOLDS ACCOUNTABLE THOSE THAT ATTACK THAT RIGHT. SIMILARLY, WE CALL OUT OFFICIALS THAT ATTEMPT TO ATTACK OUR STATE CONSTITUTION AND ITS IMPORTANT PROTECTIONS FOR OUR OUTDOOR WAY OF LIFE.

    Expenses $107,468

  • OUTREACH AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION:MCV LEVERAGES ITS STATEWIDE MEMBERSHIP TO TAKE ACTION AT CRITICAL MOMENTS FOR CONSERVATION AND DEMOCRACY SUCH AS DURING ELECTIONS, THROUGHOUT THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION, AND OTHER IMPORTANT DECISION POINTS FOR STATE OR FEDERAL OFFICIALS. WE REACH OUR MEMBERSHIP THROUGH IN-PERSON EVENTS AS WELL AS PRINT, PHONE, AND DIGITAL PLATFORMS. OUR OUTREACH TAKES PLACE STATEWIDE.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
