Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

To support the success of students and alumni at the college. The foundation works with donors, community members, and past and present students to provide resources that help students succeed in the classroom and beyond.

Activities or mission (Part I)

To be a unifying force and provide resources vital to quality education and community life.

  • Scholarships: Awarded annually and by school term, scholarships are funded by donations from corporations, foundations, individuals and organizations as well as proceeds from the annual MHCC Foundation auction. Once funding is available, scholarships are advertised for student application. A MHCC Financial Aid representative and the MHCCD Foundation Scholarship and Grants Committee members review the applications and determine recipients based upon the established scholarship criteria. Approximately $787,001 was awarded to 223 students in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. These scholarship awards aid students in paying for tuition, fees, books, and support services.

    Expenses $787,001 · Grants $787,001 · Revenue $15,748

  • Foundation support of the College: Annually the College determines private funding priorities and presents a request to the MHCCD Foundation Finance Committee for recommendation to the Foundation Board for approval. Typically, the College President makes the request. In 2023-2024, the Foundation supported the College with payments or transfers from the Board Designated General Fund for the following:$55,000 Bond Campaign; $25,000 Math Placement Project; $7,000 OER Grant; $4,500 Staff & Teacher Awards; $199,076 Equity Center; $11,048 Yoshida Piano; $12,167 Other

    Expenses $313,791 · Grants $313,791

  • Program Funds: Program funds are specifically established for use in a particular division, department or program. These funds are used for program equipment, student conference fees, professional development for instructors, and projects and assistance to benefit students and employees. Donors may designate their gift to any existing program fund or can initiate a fund if circumstances warrant. Funding for program support typically comes from donor designations as well as grants from foundations or organizations. Approximately $162,509 was funded to the College program areas in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

    Expenses $162,509 · Grants $162,509

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
