Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry, Inc (KHFH) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, managed by volunteers, and dedicated to the mission of feeding the needy throughout the commonwealth of Kentucky. We are a statewide hunger relief organization dedicated to providing a healthy source of protein to those who might otherwise go without. We accomplish this mission primarily through the following efforts:1. KHFH provides hunters an outlet to help their communities and promote environmental stewardship through wildlife management. We accomplish this by encouraging hunters to donate a harvested deer to one of our independently-operated deer/meat processors located around the commonwealth, and in turn KHFH pays to process that deer into packages of ground venison which is delivered to those in need. For the most part, the ground venison is distributed locally to food pantries in the area in which the deer are harvested. In other situations, areas of greater need are serviced by transporting th
Activities or mission (Part I)
Responsible for processing approximately 3,311 deer which hunters donate to charitable organizations for the purpose of feeding the hungry and malnourished in the state of Kentucky.
-
Our key accomplishments in 2024 towards our mission can best be described in two areas. The first and primary means is by the distribution of ground venison through food pantries located around our Commonwealth. In 2024, KHFH processed 3,311 deer (an increase of 10% over prior year), generating over 140,000 pounds of ground venison and providing an estimated 560,112 servings of protein.
Expenses $368,374

The second area in which we support our primary mission is our Venison Meat Stick Program, with an initial launch in 2022. Many school systems throughout our Commonwealth recognize that not all children are receiving the nutrition needed, and programs are in place to feed those students during the school week. To supplement this effort, other organizations have developed to provide students with backpacks or bags of food, at the end of each week, to assist children through the weekends. Providing protein over the weekend was a challenge, so KHFH was approached and asked if we could assist. In 2022, KHFH developed our Venison Meat Stick, a prepared package of venison comprised of two meat sticks per package. Much like the meat sticks you find in you area groceries or convenient stores, these meat sticks are ready-to-eat when you open the package. During our initial year of 2022 we distributed 45,000 packages to multiple school systems throughout our Commonwealth. For 2024 that number increased to 64,628 units - a 44% increase since its inception.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
