Mission and programs · 2023
Primary exempt purpose
The Thomas Memorial Hospital Auxiliary's mission is the generation of funds for the support of various hospital departments and specially designated projects.
-
The auxiliary has a scholarship fund for students that have chosen the healthcare field for their profession. The auxiliary makes a monthly contribution of $250 to the fund that is managed by the Thomas Health (TH) Foundation. Numerous nursing students apply for a grant with the TH Foundation based on the amount of financial need for a semester of schooling. The applications for a grant are screened by the TH Foundation staff and the TMH Nursing Director. The joint team will select a student from the list of students that qualify. This student is then recommended to the auxiliary for grant sponsorship. The TMH auxiliary will sponsor only one student per year. Based on the student need for the semester the auxiliary grants $2,500 and the TH Foundation will fulfill the remaining amount requested by the student. For a nursing student to accept the grant that is offered by this program, they must agree to serve two years of healthcare employment at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Grants $2,500
-
The Thomas Health System conducts a senior and junior nursing academy for 8th through 12th grade school students. The academy provides hospital staff for on-site lectures concerning healthcare fields, hospital departments and medical procedures. Students have the opportunity for hands-on experience of various nursing protocols as part of the program. Each year the auxiliary financially funds the closing pinning ceremony for junior and senior academy students.
Grants $500
-
A major part of the auxiliary mission is the financial support for Thomas Memorial Hospital renovations, upgrades and general improvements. The amount of funds provided to the hospital vary each fiscal year based on the projects that have been presented to the auxiliary by the hospital administration staff. The auxiliary executive board then discusses the various projects and decides the amount of funding that we can provide based on the auxiliary financial position.
