Mission
El Movimiento Sigue is a Chicanx social justice organization that works toward equity and advocacy in our community , state, and nation by educating and celebrating our history an culture
-
El Movimiento Sigue was awarded as stewards for the Chicano Special License Plate. We saw the legislation through from the creation of the bill. 3000 signatures were needed for the license plate to be considered. The signatures were gathered in a little over 24hrs. We helped to create the requirements for the organization who would become stewards. The stewards of the license plate had to agree that the donations for the license plate would be used for youth programming. The funds would also be spread out to different organizations who primarily worked with Chicano youth. We had to apply to become the stewards even though we did the brunt of the work. We brought together multigenerational and multigendered artists to create the design for the license plate. The Chicano license plate became available on January 1st, 2025. We developed literature on Knowing your rights when being pulled over by the police. The literature is sent to every person who donates to the license plate when they receive their Department of Motor Vehicle PIN number. Over 350 license plates have been issued so far. EMS continued its Transforming Justice work. We took on several immediate issues in Pueblo. Sweeps of houseless peoples camps were done by the order of the new mayor without any plans for where the people may go. EMS organized food, personal needs, and clothing for those people displaced. We provided food for the last year for many community meetings for our organizations and our partner organizations. We have supported our immigrant community by preparing informational documents about knowing their rights and for other resources for food, clothing, and legal help. We organized a direct action where we took food and personal needs to one of our immigrant communities along with the literature we had developed. EMS supports a weekly drop in for houseless and abused women. We provided stipends, supplies, and food to our partner organization for the drop-ins.The La Cucaracha website continues to do well and is updated weekly with new stories. The Cucaracha stories have reached over 10k views and subscribers grow weekly. Cinco de Mayo may have been the last print edition of the La Cucaracha. Printing has become extremely hard with our local printer leaving and having to travel out of town to receive the newspapers. We printed 3000 newspapers for the Cinco de Mayo special edition. They were handed out directly to the public and taken to several businesses. They have gone as far as San Luis, CO.We celebrated our 55th annual Cinco de Mayo event. This years event was at Ray Aguilera Park (Bessemer Park to most locals). We had several food trucks, vendors and information booths. A great lineup of entertainment was scheduled for the event. We scheduled a Show and Shine where people could bring their classic cars and display them. We partnered with care and share and had a mobile pantry for anyone who wanted to take food home. The weather did not cooperate, and it rained most of the day. We forged on because in the 55 years of Cinco de Mayo celebrations none have ever been canceled. For a Monday and with the rain we had over 1000 attendees

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
