THE WILLIAM J. SEYMOUR INSTITUTE FOR BLACK CHURCH AND POLICY STUDIES WILL EDUCATE AND TRAIN BLACK CHURCH LEADERS (INCLUDING CLERGY, SEMINARIANS AND LAY MEN AND WOMEN) AS WELL THE INTERESTED PUBLIC, REGARDING A PROPER CHRISTIAN PHILOSOPHIC AND THEOLOGICAL UNDERSTANDING OF COMPLEX QUESTIONS CONFRONTING THE BLACK CHURCH AT THIS PERIOD IN OUR HISTORY. AN UNCOMPROMISING COMMITMENT TO THE POOR INSPIRES THE SEYMOUR INSTITUTE'S MISSION BECAUSE OF THE GREATER VULNERABILITY OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED POPULATIONS TO THE HARMS THAT ARISE FROM IMPROPER SOCIETAL ACTION IN THE AREAS OF CONCERN.

IN 2024, PLANS FOR A RELIGIOUS FREEDOM SUMMIT IN APRIL 2025 BEGAN IN COLLABORATION WITH THE BETSEY STOCKTON CENTER AT THE PRINCETON THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY. THE ANNUAL ACADEMIC SUMMER PROGRAMS WHICH AIM TO REDUCE THE USUAL SUMMER SLIDE AMONG DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN THE BOSTON AREA WERE VERY SUCCESSFUL IN FY 2024. MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS SHOWED GROWTH IN MATH AND LANGUAGE ARTS AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS DEMONSTRATED GROWTH IN KNOWLEDGE OF AFRICAN AND AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES. AS IS CUSTOMARY, THE HYBRID SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH ALSO PROVIDED INCOME EARNING OPPORTUNITIES. IN THE 2024 FISCAL YEAR THE RESEARCH PROJECT IN POST-SECULAR SCIENCE TRANSITIONED SUCCESSFULLY TO FOCUS ON WRITING RETREATS WITH THE GOAL OF PUBLISHING AN ESSAY IN FISCAL YEAR 2025 OR 2026. 'THE BLACK CHURCH RESEARCH PROJECT' FORMERLY 'THE BLACK CHURCH SOCIAL SERVICE PROJECT' BEGAN IN 2024 AND SUCCESSFULLY RECRUITED 15 CHURCHES TO PARTICIPATE. THE REMAINING 5 CHURCHES TO ACCOMPLISH THE GOAL OF SURVEYING 20 CHURCHES WILL BE RECRUITED IN THE FALL OF 2024, GIVEN THE EXTENSION OF THE PROJECT TO FISCAL 2025.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
