Activities or mission (Part I)

THE CHARITABLE PURPOSE OF THE FOUNDATION IS TO EMPOWER BLACK INDIVIDUALS AND PERSONS OF COLOR (POC) WITHIN THE CREATIVE REALM. THROUGH A ROBUST PROGRAM OF EDUCATION, PHILANTHROPY, AND ACTIVISM, THE BBF AIMS TO ACTIVELY DISMANTLE THE STRUCTURES OF SYSTEMIC RACISM THAT HAVE LONG PERVADED OUR SOCIETY. OUR PRIMARY OBJECTIVE IS TO FOSTER AN ENVIRONMENT THAT NURTURES THE TALENTS AND POTENTIALS OF THESE INDIVIDUALS, ENABLING THEM TO FLOURISH WITHIN THEIR RESPECTIVE CREATIVE DOMAINS. BY PROVIDING NECESSARY RESOURCES AND PLATFORMS, THE BBF FOSTERS AN ECOSYSTEM OF DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, AND EQUITABLE REPRESENTATION FOR CREATIVES, ESPECIALLY THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS.

  • THE FOUNDATION'S ENTREPRENEURSHIP SPEAKER SERIES HAS PROFOUNDLY IMPACTED OVER 1,200 STUDENTS ACROSS ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN NEW YORK CITY. THE FOUNDATION IS CULTIVATING A NEW GENERATION OF ENTREPRENEURS BY EXPOSING THESE YOUNG MINDS TO REAL-WORLD BUSINESS LEADERS AND INNOVATIVE THINKING. THIS INITIATIVE ENHANCES THEIR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EQUIPS THEM WITH ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND A MINDSET FOR SUCCESS, BREAKING THE CYCLE OF ECONOMIC DISPARITY AND FOSTERING A CULTURE OF CREATIVITY AND AMBITION.

    Expenses $58,588 · Grants $5,000

  • INVESTING IN CREATIVE FUTURES THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS: THE FOUNDATION'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IS A TESTAMENT TO ITS COMMITMENT TO NURTURING TALENT IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES. APPROXIMATELY TEN UNIVERSITY-LEVEL STUDENTS RECEIVE FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO PURSUE THEIR PASSIONS IN ART, DESIGN, AND MEDIA. THIS INVESTMENT IN THE NEXT GENERATION OF CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS ENSURES THAT FINANCIAL BARRIERS DO NOT HINDER THE DREAMS OF YOUNG INNOVATORS, PROMOTING ACCESS TO INDUSTRIES THAT SHAPE CULTURAL NARRATIVES AND DRIVE ECONOMIC GROWTH.

    Expenses $234,353 · Grants $15,000

  • SUPPORTING YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS: THE BRANDON BLACKWOOD FOUNDATION EXTENDS ITS IMPACT THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS WITH RENOWNED ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE DOOR AND THE LAWYERS' COMMITTEE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS UNDER LAW. BY COLLABORATING WITH THESE ENTITIES, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, INCLUDING LEGAL AID, EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES, AND MENTORSHIP. THESE PARTNERSHIPS AMPLIFY THE FOUNDATION'S EFFORTS TO EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE, PARTICULARLY THOSE FROM UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, HELPING THEM TO OVERCOME SYSTEMIC CHALLENGES AND BUILD A BRIGHTER FUTURE.

    Expenses $96,451 · Grants $20,000

  • ONE OF THE CORNERSTONES OF THE BRANDON BLACKWOOD FOUNDATION'S SUCCESS IS ITS COMMITMENT TO PROMOTING MENTORSHIPS. THROUGH ITS VARIOUS PROGRAMS, THE FOUNDATION CONNECTED 15 STUDENTS WITH EXPERIENCED MENTORS WHO PROVIDED GUIDANCE, SUPPORT, AND INSPIRATION. THESE MENTORSHIP RELATIONSHIPS EXTENDED BEYOND THE CLASSROOM, ALLOWING STUDENTS TO GAIN REAL-WORLD INSIGHTS, DEVELOP PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS, AND RECEIVE PERSONALIZED ADVICE TAILORED TO THEIR ASPIRATIONS.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
