Mission
Lavender Rights Project elevates the power, autonomy, and leadership of the black intersex & gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. Our organization disrupts oppressive systems that target black gender diverse and intersex communities of color and lead to disproportionate levels of poverty, housing disparities, and gender-based violence, especially among black and indigenous people.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Lavender Rights Project (LRP) protects Black life by elevating the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black trans and gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. We are fighting for the right to exist without fear of state and interpersonal violence, to have control over our own bodies, and to be able to live full, long, and joyful lives. We use Black feminism to guide us as we tackle our three areas of impact-economic justice, housing justice, and gender-based violence prevention through movement building. In doing this, we place the most vulnerable members of our community-namely Black trans girls, women, femmes-at the center in order to find solutions that will bring forward collective liberation for all marginalized communities. Based in Seattle, LRP works locally and throughout the state but also has national impact through our extensive partnerships and coalitions. Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
