Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

BY PARTNERING WITH TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN UNDER-RESOURCED SCHOOLS, WE PROVIDE THE SUPPORT NEEDED FOR TEACHERS TO TEACH AND LEARNERS TO LEARN.

Activities or mission (Part I)

EVERY CHILD IN AMERICA SHOULD HAVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND ACCESS TO A QUALITY EDUCATION. KIDS IN NEED FOUNDATION'S PROGRAMS PROVIDE SUPPLIES DIRECTLY TO UNDER-RESOURCED SCHOOLS, REACHING STUDENTS THROUGH THEIR SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS. WHEN SUPPLIES ARE LACKING, THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION IS IN JEOPARDY, AND THAT AFFECTS FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN.

  • NATIONAL NETWORK OF RESOURCE CENTERS (INCLUDING TWIN CITIES RESOURCE CENTER) - THE FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH OVER 40 RESOURCE CENTERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO HELP DISTRIBUTE MUCH-NEEDED SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO STUDENTS WHO WOULD OTHERWISE GO WITHOUT. THESE ORGANIZATIONS FOCUS ON SCHOOLS WITH HIGH PERCENTAGES OF STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE FEDERAL FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM. THE RESOURCE CENTERS ARE INDEPENDENTLY OPERATED BY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT MEET THE FOUNDATION'S REQUIREMENTS.

    Expenses $111,456,653 · Revenue $30,750

  • SUPPLY A TEACHER - FOCUSES ON CORE MISSION OF PROVIDING ESSENTIAL SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO THE CLASSROOMS OF CHILDREN MOST IN NEED. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS RECEIVE TWO LARGE BOXES CONTAINING A PREDETERMINED ASSORTMENT OF CORE ITEMS WITH A RETAIL VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY $500.

    Expenses $1,701,523

  • SUPPLY A STUDENT: THE FOUNDATION SEEKS SPONSORS TO PROVIDE SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO CHILDREN IN NEED. UNDER THIS PROGRAM, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES BACKPACKS CONTAINING SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR CHILDREN IN NEED. THESE SCHOOL SUPPLIES ARE SHIPPED TO VARIOUS SCHOOLS AND APPROVED CHARITIES.

    Expenses $1,735,327

  • SECOND RESPONDER THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY A NATURAL DISASTER, SUCH AS A TORNADO, HURRICANE, WILDFIRE, OR FLOOD, TO FACILITATE THEIR RECOVERY FROM THE TRAUMA OF THEIR EXPERIENCES AND HELP THEM RESUME THEIR NORMAL ROUTINES.

    Expenses $163,285

As filed on the 2022 return. The filer continues this part on Schedule O, which is not shown here.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
