Mission and programs · 2023
Mission
RAI partners with refugee and immigrant women to foster an inclusive, prosperous transition to the US through artisan skills training and micro business development.
Activities or mission (Part I)
See Schedule O
-
Most refugees who arrive in the US come to four states, one is Washington. When they arrive, refugee and low-income immigrant women are among the most vulnerable members of US society, facing reduced employment prospects due to childcare needs, lack of education and employment history, and language barriers. The unemployment rate for for refugee women hovers around 60%. They are often targeted by exploitative professions. But for those with sewing skills who want a safe workplace, resettlement offices know right where to take them: the Refugee Artisan Initiative (RAI) Maker Space + Cultural Center. RAI offers women work the day they arrive, earning a living wage and flexible hours to accommodate children.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
