Mission
The Spitfire Club is a charitable education organization whose mission is to enhance literacy and social-emotional skills, nurturing each Spitfire's love of reading, love of self, and love for Spitfires across all communities. The Spitfire Club operates through extracurricular book clubs that seek to create demand for and build inclusive community around diverse, girl-positive books.
Activities or mission (Part I)
The Spitfire Club is a charitable education organization whose mission is to enhance literacy and social-emotional skills, nurturing each Spitfire's love of reading, love of self, and love for Spitfires across all communities. The Spitfire Club operates through extracurricular book clubs that create demand for and build inclusive community around diverse, girl-positive books. The Spitfire Club offers out-of-school-time literacy and social-emotional education programming to Title I schools, affordable housing communities, community centers, and libraries, providing both the opportunity for educational support and exposure to life skills that participants may benefit from throughout their lives.
-
In 2022, The Spitfire Club's flagship book club program served 158 unique girls aged 6-11 years old, distributed over 1,000 books, and delivered over 195 hours of live, in-person programming to Spitfire Club participants. Participants reported reading 14,445 books throughout 33 weeks of programming. All programming was executed in service of The Spitfire Club's mission to nurture each Spitfire's love of reading, love of self, and love for girls across all communities.
Expenses $25,995
-
The Spitfire Club launched a new small-group mentorship program in the fall of 2022, mobilizing two volunteers from the community and two staff members to read with and mentor groups of four to five Spitfire Club participants from one cohort of 17 fourth and fifth graders. Volunteer mentors dedicated over 18 hours to this program and continued to volunteer for the duration of the 2022-2023 school year.
Expenses $3,051
-
In partnership with a local public library, The Spitfire Club licensed curriculum and loaned necessary materials for librarians to build their own Spitfire Clubs that are free and open to the public. This program was offered at no cost to the library. This program was facilitated by the library's Children's Services Librarian and two youth volunteers, who delivered 18 weeks of Spitfire Club programming to over 40 participants across two cohorts. Iterating upon lessons learned from each term of programming, the Spitfire Club developed and tested three units of programming that can be licensed to other interested agencies in the future.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
