Mission
El Movimiento Sigue is a Chicanx social justice organization that works toward equity and advocacy in our community , state, and nation by educating and celebrating our history an culture
-
El Movimiento Sigue Held its second Rita J Martinez Youth Leadership Conference. We originally capped the students at 350, however it grew the day of the conference to 450 students. We had students from the San Luis Valley all the way up to Greeley, CO. The conference had many cultural and leadership workshops, as well as, performances during lunch. Our keynote speaker was the actor, composer, musician, and activist Daniel Valdez. Two issues of the La Cucaracha newspaper were printed. The Pueblo Chieftain moved its printing operations up north and we were without a printer. We proactively started a La Cucaracha webpage. We feel that we can be more responsive to local, state and national events. After searching for months, we were able to find a new printer. We were able to print our annual Cinco de Mayo edition of the newspaper. We celebrated our 54th annual Cinco de Mayo. We had a car show, entertainers, speakers, and over 50 vendors and informational booths. There was great media coverage of our event. The estimated attendance was around 6000 attendees. We also continue our Transforming Justice work. The focus this next year will be harm reduction in our community. Our city council has made some bad decisions that target people from a lower socioeconomic demographic. These decisions will definitely affect incarceration rates for the worse. We are trying to fight these poor decisions head on.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
