Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

CoGenerate was founded 25 years ago to change cultural expectations for the years beyond 50 and encourage older people to apply their skills to second acts for the greater good. We now focus on what the vast and growing older population can do in collaboration with younger people to solve todays most pressing problems. We believe intergenerational collaboration -- what we call cogeneration -- is an essential and effective strategy to forge bonds across differences, combat polarization and ageism, and bring all generations skills and talents to bear on our nations most pressing problems. Our mission today is to bring older and younger people together to solve problems, bridge divides, and co-create the future.

Activities or mission (Part I)

COGENERATE BRINGS OLDER AND YOUNGER PEOPLE TOGETHER TO SOLVE PROBLEMS, BRIDGE DIVIDES, AND CO-CREATE A BETTER FUTURE.

  • Grow the patternthrough catalyzing social innovation. We support innovators bringing generations together for mutual benefit and social impact. Programs include our Innovation Fellowships and CoGenerate Challenge on Economic Opportunity.

    Expenses $3,296,057 · Grants $2,092,914

  • Show the patternthrough changing the cultural narrative. We work as a thought leader and catalyst to shift the cultural narrative and tell a new story about cogenerational action. We write books and essays, sponsor research, partner with media, speak out, and hold virtual and in-person events.

    Expenses $930,505

  • Accelerate the patternthrough building the field. We identify, elevate, diversify and connect leaders of all ages working to bring generations together and advance the strategy of cogeneration.

    Expenses $653,463

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
