Mission

PROMOTE THE IMPORTANCE OF MUSEUMS IN PUERTO RICO THROUGH EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES, OFFER PROFESSIONAL CAPACITATION EXPERIENCES TO STUDENTS AND MUSEOLOGISTS, AND PROMOTE EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES RELATED TO THE CONSERVATION OF THE NATURAL AND CULTURAL PATRIMONY TO THE OPEN PUBLIC

Activities or mission (Part I)

TO OFFER PROFESSIONAL TRAINING EXPERIENCES TO MUSEOLOGISTS AND STUDENTS AND TO PROMOTE EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES RELATED TO THE CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE AMONG BROAD AUDIENCES

  • THE "TIZNANDO AL PAIS" PROGRAM'S OBJECTIVE IS TO STIMULATE NEW POINTS OF VIEW OF THE HISTORY OF BLACK OR AFRO-DESCENDANT'S ARTISTIC PRODUCTIONS. THIS PROGRAM ALSO SEEKS TO PROVIDE TEACHINGS OF VISUAL ARTS IN PUERTO RICO AND ITS DIASPORA FROM AN ANTI-RACIST FRAMEWORK. THE PROGRAM IS COMPOSED OF A SERIES OF STRATEGIC ALIANCES, EXHIBITS, AND EDCUATIONAL INITIATIVES AND RESOURCES AIMED AT ARTISTS, CULTURAL MANAGERS, TEACHING STAFF, STUDENTS, AND THE OVERALL COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM COINCIDES WITH THE CONCLUSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS' INTERNATIONAL DECADE FOR PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT INITIATIVE, AND PROMOTES ITS VALUES: ACKNOWLEDGMENT, JUSTICE, AND DEVELOPMENT. An organizational model facilitating sustained collaboration between INIM-UPR, AMPR and participants in the Tiznando El País program supports over 25 projects in Puerto Rico and the United States (10 museums, 13 community organizations, 3 artist projects, 1 project by AMPR). It includes legal and accounting frameworks for project management, operation, documentation, reporting, and the use and archive of intellectual property created under the Program. The model has made viable shared resources such as graphic design, PR and communications services, funding access, capacity building and technical assistance for project management not readily available for many organizations and artists. With the purpose of procuring transparency in the adjudication of sub-grants, an Evaluating Committee integrated by field experts was instituted by the AMPR at the Program's on-start. The Committee was tasked with assessing whether the proposals received for cultural projects to be funded met the racial justice goals of the Program (task completed), and with designing specific strategies and tools that can be shared between cultural organizations to integrate the values of equity and inclusion into practice in all their processes (in progress). The Program's cohort has produced exhibition programs, publications, instructional resources, and educational programs that reexamine art by Black and Afro-Descendant artists and challenge existing cultural paradigms that may have contributed to the exclusion of the creative production by said artists from the history of art from Puerto Rico. Ongoing programming throughout the past year has impacted artists, curators, museum professionals, students, teachers, and the general public with growing interest. Increased collaboration and knowledge sharing within the cohort has also come about through the traveling of exhibitions and sensibility training and awareness workshops on race and intersectionality for museum professionals and cultural managers. A first encounter between members of the cohort and participants of the Seminar for Emergent Curators was also organized, contributing to trust-building and breaking tensions that have arisen given by internal and external factors. The design and offering of workshops and seminars by the AMPR seek to contribute to the development of critical skills that enable long-term change in anti-racist and equity practices in future research and in the professional practice of curating.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
