Mission
Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health, safety, and independence of homebound older adults by providing nutritious, home-delivered meals and meaningful moments of human connection.
-
Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County (MOWABC) operates Monday through Friday with a Board of Directors, 16-member staff and a network of over 300 volunteers. Meal delivery is available each weekday to Buncombe County seniors age 60 and older who are homebound, without regard to race, religion, national origin, sex, handicap, or ability to pay. MOWABC received 13% of its funding through local, county, and state agencies. Approximately 87% of our support came through private donations from individuals, businesses, faith based groups, and foundations, as well as annual fundraising events and program income.
Expenses $1,140,474 · Revenue $373,808
-
In FY 2024/2025 MOWABC served 146,428 meals to 1,155 unduplicated senior clients throughtout Buncombe County. These meals included hot meals, frozen meals, snow boxes, and pantry bags. In addition to nutritional support, regular meal deliveries provide vital social contact, and wellness checks that help reduce isolation and ensure the ongoing well-being of older adults living alone.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
