Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

To share stories that uplift our spirits, deepen self-awareness and nurture compassionate community.

  • In the fiscal year ended 2023 we celebrated 20 years of providing meaningful theater to the San Francisco Bay area. We planned for a deficit due to having a reasonable surplus of cash that had been saved and managed well during the pandemic. The goal of the 20th season to celebrate all weve accomplished and to solidify that theater is back. To that end, we chose a season of high powered, popular shows starting with Indecent, which won every category of Bay Area Critic Awards including Best Production in the Entire Bay Area, and ending with A Chorus Line which enjoyed revenues exceeding a million dollarsa first in Playhouse history. We did not raise ticket prices significantly until mid-season because we wanted patrons to simply returnand by mid-season we were enjoying full houses. The shows were expensive, however, the investment paid off. The subscriptions for fiscal 2024 were meeting pre-pandemic levels by summer of 2023 and the average house size increased from pre-pandemic average of 150 to fiscal 2023 average of 180. Going into fiscal 2024 we are very optimistic for the future of San Francisco Playhouse.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
