Mission

Helens Hope Chest lightens the burden of foster and kinship families through tangible resources and compassionate support.

  • Helens Hope Chest exists to reduce the financial burden on foster and kinship families while creating a safe, welcoming, and dignified space for the children in their care. Through its shop-by-appointment boutique located in Mesa, foster and kinship children pick out clothing, school supplies, birthday gifts, and more at no cost. The holiday season culminates with JaKelles Christmas Box, an event in which foster and kinship families choose from an assortment of high-quality gifts. The event brings even more holiday joy because it comes at no cost to the foster/kinship families. Through its final year of the federally funded AmeriCorps grant program, Helens Hope Chest has augmented its support and volunteer staff with AmeriCorps members. Management of this AmeriCorps grant will end in August 2024, but Helens Hope Chests involvement with AmeriCorps members will continue through other agency partnerships. This kind of attention to budget-friendly costs results in more funds dedicated to Helens Hope Chest services. As a result, Helens Hope Chest has now expanded to serve people across the state of Arizona in the 15 years since its founding. In 2024, more than 7,000 clients have been served, with more than 56,000 items of clothing and shoes and 9,000 books being provided for children in foster and kinship care. The need is as immense as the financial relief provided.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
