Mission and programs · 2022
Mission
THE MVA COMPRISES CITIZENS, VOLUNTEERS AND EXPERTS COMMITTED TO PROTECTING THE LIBERTY INTERESTS OF AMERICANS BY IMPROVING ELECTION TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH LEGAL ACTION. THE MVA ALSO EDUCATES CITIZENS ON ELECTION MATTERS, ADVOCATES FOR INCREASING VOTER PARTICIPATION AND ENCOURAGES CITIZENS TO SERVE IN THE VARIOUS ELECTION JUDGE POSITIONS.
Activities or mission (Part I)
THE MVA WORKS TO IMPROVE ELECTION TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH LEGAL ACTION AND TO EDUCATE CITIZENS ON ELECTION MATTERS.
-
WE HAVE INITIATED MULTIPLE ELECTION LAWSUITS THAT WERE HEARD IN 2022, INCLUDING A CASE AGAINST RAMSEY AND OLMSTED COUNTIES HEARD IN THE MN SUPREME COURT IN JANUARY 2022 IN WHICH WE SOUGHT PARTY BALANCE REVIEW ON ABSENTEE BALLOT BOARDS. WE ACHIEVED PARTIAL VICTORY IN THIS CASE WHEN THE HIGH COURT SAID THAT BALLOT BOARDS MUST INCLUDE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF PARTY BALANCED ELECTION JUDGES. ALSO IN 2022, MVA FILED A LAWSUIT IN THE MN COURT OF APPEALS AGAINST THE OFFICE OF THE MINNESOTA SECRETARY OF STATE (SOS) TO STRIKE DOWN A RULE THAT MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ELECTION JUDGES AND BALLOT BOARD MEMBERS TO DO THEIR JOB IN CARRYING OUT THE SIGNATORY VERIFICATION REQUIREMENTS IN MINNESOTA'S ELECTION LAW. THIS CASE ULTIMATELY WAS HEARD BY THE MN SUPREME COURT IN EARLY 2023. MVA WAS INVITED TO SEVERAL SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS ACROSS THE STATE THAT FOCUSED ON EDUCATING CITIZENS HOW WE ARE WORKING ON IMPROVING ELECTION TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH OUR MOST RECENT LEGAL ACTIONS TAKEN AS WELL AS ADVOCATING FOR CITIZENS TO BECOME ELECTION JUDGES AND TO INCREASE VOTER PARTICIPATION.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
