Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

THE PURPOSE OF THE PREGNANCY CARE CENTER IS TO SAVE LIVES AND STRENGTHEN FAMILIES BY PROVIDING HOPE AND PRACTICAL HELP TO WOMEN AND MEN FACING UNPLANNED PREGNANCY AS WELL AS PRESENTING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP EDUCATION TO EQUIP TEENS TO MAKE HEALTHY CHOICES.

Activities or mission (Part I)

TO SAVE LIVES & STRENGTHEN FAMILIES BY PROVIDING HOPE & HELP TO WOMEN & MEN FACING UNPLANNED PREGNANCY VIA LIMITED MEDICAL SERVICES, ONE-ON-ONE COACHING & EDUCATION.

  • THE CLIENT SERVICES PROGRAM OFFERS A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO STRENGTHENING FAMILIES, AT NO COST TO OUR CLIENTS. THE SERVICES INCLUDE ONE-ON-ONE COACHING FOR MALES AND FEMALES, GROUP CLASSES, AND OUR CHOICES PROGRAM, WHICH TEACHES RELATIONAL HEALTH AND SEXUAL INTEGRITY TO AREA STUDENTS. THROUGH THE CLIENT SERVICES PROGRAM, WE CAN OFFER OUR CLIENTS FREE, CONFIDENTIAL SERVICES, INCLUDING: - ONE-ON-ONE COACHING AND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR MALE AND FEMALE CLIENTS, WHICH HELP BUILD STRONG FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS. COACHES SUPPORT CLIENTS AS THEY NAVIGATE THEIR UNIQUE CIRCUMSTANCES BY OFFERING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT AND REFERRALS TO IN-HOUSE OR COMMUNITY RESOURCES SPECIFIC TO EACH CLIENT'S NEEDS. - GROUP CLASSES ON A WIDE RANGE OF TOPICS, OFFERED TO CLIENTS AND THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. ALL CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS SUCH AS REGISTERED NURSES (RNS), ATTORNEYS, AND LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS (LPCS). WE CURRENTLY OFFER MORE THAN 100 CLASSES, IN PERSON AND ONLINE, THAT COVER TOPICS SUCH AS PREGNANCY, PARENTING, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, AND PRACTICAL LIFE SKILLS LIKE BUDGETING AND NUTRITION. THE GOAL OF THIS EDUCATION IS TO EQUIP EACH PERSON WITH THE INFORMATION AND SKILLS NEEDED TO OVERCOME PERSONAL AND RELATIONAL BARRIERS TO BECOMING A HEALTHY PERSON AND POSITIVE PARENT. - OUR CHOICES PROGRAM, WHICH IS OFFERED TO MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE SURROUNDING AREA, EDUCATES ABOUT AND ENCOURAGES HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP DECISIONS AND SEXUAL INTEGRITY. - COUNSELING SERVICES, PROVIDED BY A STAFF LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR (LPC), HELP CLIENTS WORK THROUGH ISSUES SUCH AS PAST TRAUMA AND POST-PARTUM DEPRESSION AS THEY NAVIGATE PREGNANCY, PARENTHOOD, AND FAMILY LIFE. WE MEASURE SUCCESS THROUGH THE SATISFACTION OF OUR CLIENTS AS THEY GO THROUGH OUR PROGRAM. IN 2024, ON ONE-ON-ONE CLIENT SATISFACTION SURVEYS, 99% OF THE CLIENTS WHO RESPONDED REPORTED THEY WOULD RECOMMEND PCC'S SERVICES AND 99% FELT THEY WERE GIVEN THE HELP THEY NEEDED. ON POST-CLASS SURVEYS, 98% OF ALL ATTENDEES SAID THEY COULD APPLY THE INFORMATION GAINED TO THEIR REAL LIVES AND THAT THE CLASSES HELPED THEM IMPROVE THEIR LIFE SKILLS. IN 2024, PCC OFFERED HOPE AND HELP TO 1,607 CLIENTS THROUGH ALMOST 9,500 COACHING SESSIONS CLASS SESSIONS. THROUGH OUR EARN WHILE YOU LEARN PROGRAM, OUR CLIENTS EARNED MORE THAN 56,000 DIAPERS, WIPES, AND OTHER ESSENTIAL BABY ITEMS. CLIENTS CONTINUED TO ENGAGE IN OUR PROVIDING RESOURCES AND EDUCATION FOR PARENTS (PREP) PROGRAM THAT ADDRESSES SPECIFIC RISK FACTORS FOR INFANT DEATH, SUCH AS SLEEP AND TRANSPORTATION SAFETY, WHILE ALSO PROVIDING VITAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND EDUCATION TO PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS. CLIENTS WHO COMPLETE CERTAIN CORE CLASSES AND THE COACHING CURRICULUM CAN EARN A BRAND-NEW CAR SEAT. BY ATTENDING A SAFE SLEEP CLASS, THEY CAN ALSO EARN A BRAND-NEW PORTABLE CRIB. IN 2024, 243 CLIENTS EARNED INFANT SAFETY EQUIPMENT THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. WE ENTERED INTO A PARTNERSHIP WITH A STATE-ACCREDITED CHILDCARE AGENCY TO PROVIDE FREE CHILDCARE TO OUR CLIENTS DURING ALL PCC-RELATED APPOINTMENTS, I.E. MEDICAL SERVICES, COACHING, OR CLASSES. OUR CLIENTS HAVE OFTEN MENTIONED CHILDCARE AS A BARRIER TO THEM ACCESSING PCC'S SERVICES, SO THIS HELPS ENSURE THEY CAN ATTEND COACHING AND CLASSES WHILE FEELING CONFIDENT THAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE BEING WELL CARED FOR WHILE THEY PARTICIPATE IN OUR PROGRAM. THE ONE-ON-ONE COACHING PROGRAM IS ENHANCED BY OUR CONTRACT WITH ALLIANCE FOR LIFE MISSOURI, A STATE PREGNANCY RESOURCE CENTER (PRC) AFFILIATE. THEIR CONTRACT WITH THE STATE OF MISSOURI THROUGH THE ALTERNATIVES TO ABORTION (A2A) PROGRAM HAS ALLOWED US TO PROVIDE $100,149 IN DIRECT ASSISTANCE TO ELIGIBLE CLIENTS TO HELP THEM OVERCOME SPECIFIC BARRIERS IN THEIR PREGNANCY DECISIONS. OUR FATHERHOOD TEAM SERVED 516 MEN WITH COACHING SUPPORT AND EDUCATION. WE IMPLEMENTED A SPANISH MALE COACHING CURRICULUM TO SERVE OUR BILINGUAL CLIENTS. SOME MALE CLIENTS HAVE REQUESTED A MORE IN-DEPTH COACHING EXPERIENCE, SO OUR FATHERHOOD TEAM NOW OFFERS ADDITIONAL COACHING CURRICULA THAT DELVES MORE DEEPLY INTO CHARACTER BUILDING FOR FATHERS AND EMBRACING THEIR ROLES AS PARENT AND PROVIDER FOR THEIR FAMILIES. ABORTION IN ALL ITS FORMS WAS BANNED IN MISSOURI IN JUNE 2022, AFTER THE SCOTUS DECISION TO OVERTURN ROE V. WADE. THEN ON NOVEMBER 5, 2024, AMENDMENT 3 PASSED, EFFECTIVELY INCREASING ACCESS TO ABORTION ACROSS THE STATE OF MISSOURI. THE SPECIFICS OF HOW THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT AFFECTS CURRENT LEGISLATION ARE STILL BEING DECIDED IN THE COURTS. BUT WE HAVE SEEN AN INCREASE IN WOMEN SEEKING ABORTION WANTING TO SCHEDULE PREGNANCY TESTS AND ULTRASOUNDS BEFORE TAKING THE PILLS. SEE DETAILS REGARDING HOW WE HAVE CHANGED OUR CLIENT SERVICE APPROACH POST-AMENDMENT 3 BELOW UNDER MEDICAL SERVICES PROGRAM NARRATIVES. WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO FIND CREATIVE WAYS TO DECREASE BARRIERS THAT PREVENT OUR CLIENTS' FULL PARTICIPATION IN OUR PROGRAM. PROVIDING CAB TRANSPORTATION AND CHILDCARE ARE TWO EXAMPLES OF CREATIVE SOLUTIONS WE HAVE EMPLOYED. WE NEED ADDITIONAL SPACE TO ACCOMMODATE THE GROWING NUMBER OF SERVICES WITH WHICH WE ARE SERVING OUR CLIENTS. WE PLAN TO MOVE OUR ADMINISTRATIVE, FINANCE, AND MISSION ADVANCEMENT TEAMS TO A SPACE NEAR OUR CURRENT BUILDING, WHICH WILL ALLOW US TO CONVERT THOSE TEAMS' CURRENT OFFICES INTO CLIENT COACHING ROOMS. WE ARE MORE FULLY UTILIZING A STAFF COACHING MODEL VS. A VOLUNTEER MODEL. THIS ALLOWS US TO SERVE CLIENTS WHEN VOLUNTEERS ARE AWAY FROM THE CENTER AND MAINTAIN CONSISTENCY AND A STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE IN OUR COACHING PROGRAMS. WE ARE WORKING THROUGH A PLAN TO BETTER UTILIZE OUR CLIENT SOFTWARE, WHICH WILL ALLOW US TO SERVE AND COMMUNICATE WITH OUR CLIENTS IN A MORE USER-FRIENDLY, EFFICIENT MANNER.

  • THE MEDICAL SERVICES PROGRAM PROVIDES PREGNANCY TESTING AND LIMITED OBSTETRIC ULTRASOUNDS WITH THE OVERSIGHT OF A MEDICAL DIRECTOR, A LOCAL LICENSED, BOARD-CERTIFIED OB/GYN. OUR CHIEF NURSING OFFICER AND STAFF REGISTERED NURSES (RNS) WORK ALONGSIDE THE COACHES TO PROVIDE MEDICAL INFORMATION TO CLIENTS. OUR CLIENTS' FEEDBACK HELPS US MEASURE SUCCESS. WE PROVIDE ACCURATE, TIMELY MEDICAL INFORMATION TO ASSIST THEM WITH MAKING INFORMED DECISIONS REGARDING THEIR PREGNANCIES. IF THEY FEEL THEY HAVE THE INFORMATION AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO MAKE THOSE DECISIONS, WE CONSIDER THAT A SUCCESS. IN 2024, THE MEDICAL SERVICES PROGRAM SERVED CLIENTS WITH 582 PREGNANCY TESTS AND 480 ULTRASOUNDS. AFTER AMENDMENT 3 PASSED, WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED A MORE EXTENSIVE MEDICAL MODEL FOR THESE CLIENTS, INCLUDING CONNECTING THEM WITH ONE OF OUR STAFF RNS AS EARLY IN THE PROCESS AS POSSIBLE, USUALLY DURING THE FIRST PHONE CALL, TEXT, OR WEBSITE INQUIRY. THE NURSE WORKS CLOSELY WITH THAT CLIENT, PROVIDING MEDICAL SERVICES, LIMITED COACHING, AND RESOURCE REFERRALS (NOT ABORTION) UNTIL SHE HAS MADE A PREGNANCY DECISION. FOR THOSE CLIENTS THAT DECIDE TO CONTINUE THEIR PREGNANCY, WE THEN ENROLL THEM IN OUR TRADITIONAL COACHING AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS. WE HIRED ANOTHER RN TO ACCOMMODATE THIS CHANGE. ABORTION IN ALL ITS FORMS WAS BANNED IN MISSOURI IN JUNE 2022, AFTER THE SCOTUS DECISION TO OVERTURN ROE V. WADE. HOWEVER, DESPITE THEM STILL BEING ILLEGAL, ABORTION PILLS ARE STILL WIDELY AVAILABLE ON WEBSITES AND DELIVERED TO YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR HOMES. THIS MEANS ADAPTING OUR CLIENT SERVICES APPROACH TO BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF THESE CLIENTS CONTINUES TO BE TOP OF MIND FOR US. FOR EXAMPLE, SINCE THESE CLIENTS ARE OFTEN SELF-ADMINISTERING THE ABORTION PILLS WITH NO MEDICAL OVERSIGHT, CONNECTING THEM WITH OUR NURSE TEAM FOR A CONSULTATION EARLIER IN THE PROCESS TO ANSWER THEIR QUESTIONS IS IMPORTANT FOR THEIR SAFETY AND PEACE OF MIND. SEE NARRATIVE ABOVE REGARDING IMPLEMENTING A MEDICAL MODEL. WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO REACH YOUNG WOMEN CONSIDERING TERMINATING THEIR PREGNANCIES TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT THE REALITIES AND RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH SELF-ADMINISTERING ABORTIONS AND ANSWER OTHER QUESTIONS THEY HAVE AS THEY NAVIGATE THE EARLY STAGES OF AN UNPLANNED PREGNANCY. WE PLAN TO CONTINUE BUILDING OUR MEDICAL SERVICES PROGRAM THROUGH HIRING ADDITIONAL STAFF NURSES AND ADDING ANOTHER ULTRASOUND MACHINE TO INCREASE OUR CAPACITY FOR SERVING MORE CLIENTS EXPEDIENTLY.

  • THROUGH THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM, WE PROVIDE RELEVANT INFORMATION CONCERNING PCC'S MISSION, APPROACH, SERVICES, AND IMPACT WITHIN OUR SERVICE AREA, WITH A MAIN GOAL OF INCREASING AWARENESS WITHIN OUR PRIMARY CLIENT DEMOGRAPHIC, YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 19-24. ONE OF THE PRIMARY WAYS WE MEASURE SUCCESS IN THIS PROGRAM IS TRACKING THE NUMBER OF CLIENTS WE SERVE AND HOW THAT COMPARES TO PAST YEARS, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF CURRENT MARKETING AND OUTREACH EFFORTS. MUCH OF OUR APPROACH CENTERS AROUND OUR ONLINE PRESENCE THROUGH OUR WEBSITES AND SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES. WE ALSO MAINTAIN A PRESENCE ON EACH OF THE FOUR MAJOR COLLEGE CAMPUSES, WHICH ALLOWS US TO INCREASE AWARENESS WITHIN OUR PRIMARY DEMOGRAPHIC. OTHER METHODS WE USE INCLUDE BUILDING STRONG REFERRAL AND COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER LOCAL NONPROFIT AGENCIES, MEDICAL PROVIDERS, AND BUSINESSES AT COMMUNITY EVENTS AND FORUMS. WE ASK EACH CLIENT, ON OUR INTAKE PAPERWORK, HOW THEY HEARD ABOUT PCC TO GAUGE HOW SUCCESSFUL WE ARE IN INCREASING AWARENESS. IN 2024, PCC'S CAMPUS AMBASSADOR PROGRAM EXPERIENCED CONTINUED SUCCESS IN REACHING STUDENTS WITH INFORMATION ABOUT PCC'S SERVICES AND RESOURCES. WE CONTINUED TO DISTRIBUTE FREE, BRANDED PREGNANCY TESTS WITH PCC'S CONTACT INFORMATION INSIDE EACH PACKET. SINCE THAT EFFORT BEGAN IN 2022, OUR CAMPUS OUTREACH TEAM HAS DISTRIBUTED NEARLY 3,000 PREGNANCY TESTS TO STUDENTS. WE HAVE CONTINUED TO WORK TOWARD DEVELOPING OUR STUDENT GROUP ON MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY'S (MSU'S) CAMPUS AND INCREASED OUR PRESENCE ON OTHER CAMPUSES, INCLUDING DRURY UNIVERSITY AND EVANGEL UNIVERSITY. OUR CAMPUS COORDINATOR HAS FINE-TUNED OUR CAMPUS FOCUS AND BRANDING WITH HOPES OF ULTIMATELY REPLICATING THIS CONCEPT ON OTHER CAMPUSES. SINCE OUR PRIMARY DEMOGRAPHIC (COLLEGE-AGED PEOPLE) IS CONSTANTLY SHIFTING AND CHANGING, MARKETING TO THIS GROUP AND MAINTAINING CONTINUITY WITHIN OUR STUDENT GROUP OFFICERS AND MEMBERS CAN BE CHALLENGING. OUR MSU STUDENT GROUP REMAINED STRONG, AND WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES TO INCREASE OUR AWARENESS ON OTHER UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES. WE ARE LOOKING TO EXPAND OUR REACH ON THE MSU CAMPUS THROUGH OUR 417CHOICES@MSU STUDENT ORGANIZATION. WE WOULD ULTIMATELY LIKE TO REPLICATE, OR "FRANCHISE", THIS CONCEPT ON OTHER LOCAL COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES. ANOTHER GOAL IS TO EXPAND OUR PREGNANCY TEST DISTRIBUTION AMONG THE VARIOUS RESOURCES ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUSES, INCLUDING OZARKS TECHNICAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND DRURY UNIVERSITY. WE ALSO HOPE TO ENGAGE STUDENTS ON THESE CAMPUSES TO SERVE AS AMBASSADORS OF PCC'S MISSION AMONG THEIR FELLOW STUDENTS UNTIL WE HAVE MORE FIRMLY ESTABLISHED STUDENT GROUPS ON THOSE CAMPUSES.
