Mission
The Organization is the local coordinating entity of the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area and serves to connect people to the cultural and historic foundations and the living landscapes of the Santa Cruz Valley and actively works towards its long-term stewardship.
-
The National Heritage Area partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs Tucson Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse, the Sonoran Stitch Factory, and two muralists to install a mural in the Old Pascua Neighborhood to celebrate the traditions of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The project paired 8 youth artists to serve as apprentices to the two professional muralists. Through their ideating sessions the youth, who received a stipend for their work, and the artists collaborated on the design concept and completed the subsequent artwork, which has been featured in print and online publications, and was a featured stop in Tucsons Cyclovia 2022 event.
Expenses $43,402
-
Educational Exhibits - The National Heritage Area worked with multiple partners and stakeholders in the many communities throughout the area to install 21 educational panels. These panels, located in city halls, community centers, libraries, museums and attractions, spread awareness to visitors and locals alike regarding the significance of our Congressional designation while highlighting our themes and instilling a sense of pride in place.
Expenses $43,402
-
In May 2022, the National Heritage Area supported Tucsons designation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy at their inaugural Pueblos del Maiz fiesta by hosting a panel of six experts to discuss the importance of corn cultivation in the cultural heritage of desert farming in our region, beginning with the early farming traditions of the Tohono Oodham and their ancestors. The informative event was very well attended, and its recording is available for viewing on our website.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
