Mission and programs · 2023
Primary exempt purpose
A service organization for dancers and choreographers in New Mexico, providing audience insurance, performance opportunities, fiscal sponsorship, and advocacy.
-
Serving as a fiscal sponsor for dance companies and dancers who do not yet have their non-profit status or have single events and have sponsors who want to contribute to their activities. In 2023, NMDC had 4 active fiscal agents, ranging from Indigenous, African, Middle Eastern, and Spanish styles of dance. Two fiscal agents conducted funding drives to recover from the COVID-19 losses.
Expenses $96,195 · Grants $2,613
-
NMDC annually produces two dance events (30 years running except during COVID) offering all experience levels, from children to professionals. One outdoor event, MonoMundo, is free to the public at the Santa Fe Plaza. The 2023 indoor event was canceled due to COVID. The 2023 outdoor MonoMundo event has average numbers of choreographers, dancers, and attendees: 12, 30, and 400, respectively
Expenses $1,685
-
Offer to members audience insurance at a low collective price, typically 1/5th the cost of individual policies. During COVID, this was not used but we paid the premium to keep the policy active. Still, in prior years, this service saved the dance community $1000s annually in insurance fees and often was the difference between a successful event and one not financially viable.
