Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

Neighborhood Funders Group (NFG) is a network of national and local grantmakers throughout the U.S. Our mission is to organize philanthropy to support grassroots power building so that communities of color and low-income communities thrive. We bring together funders to learn, connect, and mobilize resources with an intersectional and place-based focus.

Activities or mission (Part I)

NFG organizes philanthropy to support grassroots power building so that communities of color and low-income communities thrive.

  • NFG is the fiscal sponsor of the LIFT Fund. The LIFT Fund connects labor unions and philanthropy to coordinate resources, strategies and funding that support worker organizing and power building.

    Expenses $8,367,561 · Grants $6,600,000 · Revenue $41,000

  • The Amplify Fund is a funder collaborative that supports BIPOC and low-income communities to build power and to influence decisions about the places they live and work. Together with our funding partners, Amplify leads a place-based strategy and collaborates directly with movement leaders in each place (California, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, and Tennessee) to make grantmaking decisions.

    Expenses $5,463,040 · Grants $3,298,501

  • Integrated Rural Strategies Group (IRSG) elevates the importance of philanthropic support for organizing and power-building work with a racial justice lens in rural areas.

    Expenses $538,844 · Grants $32,000

  • Across all of NFG's programs, we focus on lifting up community voices and place-based strategies. Our work in place builds and strengthens relationships between national grantmakers, local and regional funders, and community organizations for our long-term outcome: philanthropic assets are liberated so that BIPOC communities and low-income communities have power to self-determine.NFG's National Convenings are currently designed for staff and board members at foundations and grantmaking organizations whose primary activity is funding racial, gender, economic, disability, and climate justice.

    Expenses $1,266,224 · Grants $28,250 · Revenue $58,372

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
