Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

OUR MISSION IS TO FIND LOVING HOMES FOR RESCUED DOGS, MOSTLY RACETRACK GREYHOUNDS, BUT ALSO NON-RACERS AND GREYHOUND MIXES. OUR GOAL IS TO SAVE AS MANY DOGS AS WE CAN WHILE MAINTAINING A QUALITY PROGRAM FOCUSED ON EACH INDIVIDUAL DOG AND PROSPECTIVE ADOPTERS' NEEDS. TO THIS END, WE SERVE AS ADVOCATES FOR EACH PERSON ADOPTING AND EACH DOG WELCOMED INTO THEIR HOME AS FAMILY.

  • SHELTER AND ADOPTION PROGRAM: GAC SAVES DOGS DISCARDED BY THE GREYHOUND RACING INDUSTRY FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS. THIS WORK WAS TRANSFERRED TO SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY IN FEBRUARY 2023 WHEN CASH, REAL PROPERTY, AND ALL OTHER FIXED ASSETS USED IN GAC'S OPERATIONS WERE TRANSFERRED TO THIS NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE AND SHELTER FOR GREYHOUNDS FOR ONE YEAR AFTER THE CALIENTE, MEXICO GREYHOUND RACETRACK CLOSES. THE TRACK CLOSED IN JULY 2024. ANY OF GAC'S TRANSFERRED ASSETS REMAINING AFTER THIS DATE MAY BE USED FOR SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY'S OPERATIONS. IN FEBRUARY 2023, 290,000 IN CASH, AND 332,490 IN FIXED ASSETS WERE TRANSFERRED TO SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY AS GAC CONTINUED TO CLOSE OPERATIONS. IN OCTOBER 2024, THE REMAINING CASH OF 74,020 WAS PAID TO SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY VIA CERTIFIED CHECK WHEN GAC'S OPERATIONS TERMINATED.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
