We also support the community of musicians in Boston by acting as a high-level ensemble playing unique repertoire with a relatively short rehearsal cycle. Finally, we further the artistic development of the community of young composers by providing them with performances of large-ensemble pieces, a much-desired opportunity.

Horizon Ensemble Concert, No. 6: Flow was delivered on March 5, 2023. A concert of flowing orchestral music! Featuring music by Felix Mendelssohn, Marcea McGuire, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Gordon Jacob. About this Event As we began to break the winter freeze, Horizon Ensemble invited folks to get into the flow of the oncoming spring with some music old and new. The Horizon Ensemble is an orchestra that plays music by friends & music of history and will be presenting music centered around the theme of "flow." The concert started with More Old Wine in New Bottles by Gordon Jacob, a casting of four English folk songs reimagined for wind and brass instruments. Next, the ensemble flew through the airy notes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Overture to The Magic Flute. What followed was a premiere of our friend Marcea McGuire's new piece Flow, inspired by flowing air and poetry. Finally, the concert finished with Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, nicknamed the "Scottish Symphony," inspired by his travels in the winds and waters of Scotland.

Horizon Ensemble Concert 7: Across the Pond, was delivered on August 19, 2023. "The day has grown old; the fainting sun has but a little way to run...". We'll highlight local Boston composers, American trailblazer Charles Ives, and the British composer Benjamin Britten. A Serenade for Winds opened the program, written by four friends of the Horizon Ensemble: Amber Dai, Brian Daniel Ross, Enrique Hernández de Tejada III, and Julian Gau. Next: Charles Ives's Three Places in New England, a wild romp through three New England landmarks, including one in the Boston Public Garden! Last was Benjamin Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, a menagerie of odes to the subtle graces of nighttime. Horizon Ensemble Concert 8: Branches and Dances was delivered on December 17, 2023. "While thy branches mix with mine, and our roots together join." Shadows lengthen and reveal the beauty of the branches above us as we dance through these December days. The Horizon Ensemble is an orchestra that plays music by friends and music of history. The concert started by performing the world premiere of act Natural ~ by composer and violist Elsie Bae Han. This piece featured cellist Olivia Katz and twenty-one string players - not only playing but also walking around and talking. The audience were to find out what it really means to act natural! Next, it was Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major, a well-loved gem of the orchestral world. Each movement features its own characteristic rhythmic energy, from the stately, severe Allegretto to the boisterous, rollicking finale. What a blast!
