Mission
WE BELIEVE THAT ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE IS A BASIC HUMAN NECESSITY, AND WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE THE WIDEST RANGE OF MEDICAL AND DENTAL SERVICES POSSIBLE TO THE PEOPLE IN THE IOWA CITY AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITY WHO WOULD NOT OTHERWISE HAVE ACCESS TO CARE.
-
THE IOWA CITY FREE MEDICAL CLINIC HAS SERVED THE DIVERSE, LOW-INCOME POPULATION OF IOWA CITY, JOHNSON COUNTY, AND THE SURROUNDING AREA SINCE 1971. BY OFFERING FREE HEALTHCARE, THE CLINIC PROVIDES AN AFFORDABLE ALTERNATIVE TO EMERGENCY ROOMS AND ENSURES PATIENTS CAN PRIORITIZE BASIC NEEDS LIKE HOUSING, FOOD, AND UTILITIES. WHILE CARE IS PROVIDED AT NO COST, IT RELIES ON VOLUNTEERS AND LIMITED RESOURCES. THE CLINIC IS SUPPORTED BY LOCAL FUNDING AGREEMENTS, GRANTS, FUNDRAISING, DONOR CONTRIBUTIONS, AND DONATED SERVICES. IN FISCAL YEAR 24, THE CLINIC HELD 7-8 MEDICAL CLINICS AND 2-3 DENTAL CLINICS WEEKLY. PATIENTS RECEIVED TREATMENT FOR ACUTE AND CHRONIC DISEASES, SPECIALTY CARE, AND PREVENTIVE CARE. A SMALL STAFF AND OVER 400 ANNUAL VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED THE COMPREHENSIVE CARE TO HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE MONTHLY. DURING THE YEAR, THE CLINIC PROVIDED 6,715 APPOINTMENTS, ADDRESSING AND TREATING 14,720 DIAGNOSES. PATIENTS RECEIVED MEDICAL CARE, LABORATORY WORK, AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION AS NEEDED. 95% OF PATIENTS WERE UNINSURED, 56% WERE EMPLOYED, AND 70% HAD HOUSEHOLD INCOMES BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. WITHOUT THE CLINIC, MANY VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS WOULD LIKELY AVOID SEEKING CARE DUE TO HIGH OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH EMERGENCY ROOMS OR PRIVATE PRACTICES.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
