Mission

NEW DAY IS AN ACCESSIBLE, TRUSTED AND PATIENT FOCUSED MICHIGAN CANCER SUPPORT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL RESOURCES TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE AND TREATMENT OUTCOMES.

  • NEW DAY IS HELP AND HOPE FOR CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN BEEN IMPROVING HEALTH EQUITY FOR CANCER PATIENTS FOR 16 YEARS AS A CO-COLLABORATOR WITH 70 MICHIGAN HOSPITALS ACROSS 57 COUNTIES. NEW DAY HELPS MORE THAN 2,300 CANCER PATIENTS, CAREGIVERS, PARENTS AND CHILDREN EACH YEAR, BEFORE THEY HIT CRITICAL FINANCIAL BREAKING POINTS CAUSED BY FINANCIAL TOXICITY, A HARMFUL SIDE EFFECT THAT CREATES SIGNIFICANT BARRIERS TO TREATMENT AND HEALING. NEW DAY PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE DIRECTLY TO CREDITORS ON BEHALF OF FAMILIES FOR HOUSING (53%), UTILITIES (20%), TRANSPORTATION (11%), FOOD (15%) AND OTHER NECESSITIES (1%), BECAUSE NO FAMILY SHOULD HAVE TO MAKE UNTHINKABLE CHOICES BETWEEN MEDICAL TREATMENT AND HAVING BASIC NEEDS MET. RESEARCH PROVES THAT THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF CANCER DIRECTLY IMPACTS TREATMENT OUTCOMES, WITH MORTALITY RATES DOUBLING FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY FINANCIAL TOXICITY. CANCER PATIENTS NEED MORE THAN MEDICINE TO SURVIVE, AND THEIR BEST CHANCE FOR SURVIVAL HAPPENS WHEN THEY HAVE BOTH THE BEST IN MEDICAL CARE COMBINED WITH THE BEST NON-MEDICAL FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. IN 2022, NEW DAY SUPPORTED 1,024 CHILDREN, PROVIDED 23,184 MEALS FOR CANCER FAMILIES, AND ONBOARDED 22 DIVERSE, MULTI-LINGUAL PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS TO PROVIDE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR PATIENTS, CAREGIVERS AND FAMILY MEMBERS.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
