Mission
AMERICAN FEDERATION OF TEACHERS - OREGON (AFT-OREGON) IS A UNION OF PROFESSIONALS THAT CHAMPIONS FAIRNESS; DEMOCRACY; ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY; AND HIGH-QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE AND PUBLIC SERVICES FOR OUR STUDENTS, THEIR FAMILIES AND OUR COMMUNITIES. WE ARE COMMITTED TO ADVANCING THESE PRINCIPLES THROUGH COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, ORGANIZING, COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND POLITICAL ACTIVISM, AND ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE WORK OUR MEMBERS DO.
-
WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY HIRED STAFF INTO ALL OPEN POSITIONS, WHICH ALLOWS US TO HAVE BOTH A FIELD REP AND AN ORGANIZER ASSIGNED TO EACH OF OUR LOCALS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE JANUS SUPREME COURT CASE IN 2018. ALONG WITH HIRING A SECOND POLITICAL STAFF THIS INCREASES OUR CAPACITY TO NURTURE INTERNAL ORGANIZING AND POWERFUL BARGAINING CAMPAIGNS AND CULTIVATE INCREASED POLITICAL ACTIVISM ACROSS OUR FEDERATION.
-
WE COMPLETED A 5 YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN THAT ADDRESSES ORGANIZING, BARGAINING, POLITICS, FINANCES, DATA, COMMUNICATION & TRAINING/EDUCATION. THIS WORK WAS DONE IN COLLABORATION ACROSS STAFF AND KEY EC MEMBERS AND WAS RATIFIED BY BOTH OUR EXECUTIVE COUNCIL AND OUR LOCALS AT OUR 2025 CONVENTION. THIS PLANNING WORK WILL BE REVISITED AT OUR STAFF RETREAT AND OUR EC & STAFF RETREAT AND BE UPDATED ANNUALLY.
-
BY HIRING A HALF-TIME DATA SPECIALIST WITH EXTENSIVE AIRTABLE DATABASE EXPERIENCE, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CREATE NEW MEMBER DATABASES FOR 6 OF OUR LOCALS SO FAR AND A CENTRAL DATABASE FOR AFT-OREGON, WHICH WILL GROW TO BE ABLE TO AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE OUR DATA WHEN THE LOCALS UPDATE THEIR OWN DATA. THIS WILL IMPROVE THE ACCURACY OF BOTH OUR LOCALS' DATA AND OUR OWN. IT WILL ALSO HOLD OUR STRATEGIC PLAN AND BUILD TOWARDS BEING THE FOUNDATION OF A SHARED PROJECT MANAGEMENT TRACKING SYSTEM.
-
WE SUCCESSFULLY HOSTED OUR BIANNUAL CONVENTION IS SEASIDE, OR WITH 130 DELEGATES AND ALTERNATES IN ATTENDANCE.
As filed on the 2024 return. The filer continues this part on Schedule O, which is not shown here.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
