PATRICK BEAVER LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER EMPOWERS STRIVING READERS, EDUCATES THEIR PARENTS, AND EQUIPS THEIR TEACHERS. STRIVING READERS INCLUDE THOSE NOT ONLY AFFECTED BY DYSLEXIA OR ADHD BUT ALSO CHALLENGED BY POVERTY OR LANGUAGE BARRIERS.

  • PBLRC PROVIDED RESEARCH-BASED STRUCTURED LITERACY TUTORING TO 39 STRUGGLING READERS FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AT 13 DIFFERENT SCHOOLS IN CATAWBA COUNTY. DURING THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR, 1,066 HOURS OF READING TUTORING WERE PROVIDED AT NO COST TO FAMILIES OR THE SCHOOLS. FROM PRETEST TO POSTTEST, ON A NATIONALLY NORMED INDIVIDUAL READING INVENTORY, TUTORED STUDENTS RECOGNIZED 30% MORE WORDS ACCURATELY AND ANSWERED 57% MORE COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS CORRECTLY.
