Activities or mission (Part I)
Since 1964, the national award-winning Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) has advanced nonprofits and volunteerism by strengthening leadership, encouraging innovation, and empowering individuals in service to their communities. We know that passion alone isn't enough when it comes to creating strong nonprofits. That's why we work with leaders and volunteers every day to help them build the skills and connections that can take their impact to the next level. When they are confident and well-prepared, our communities become healthier, more equitable, and more resilient.

Staff and volunteers drove more than 43,000 passengers over 523,000 miles to doctor visits, critical appointments, and work sites. Volunteer Wheels provides elderly and disabled residents and visitors in Sonoma County with the opportunity to live with a degree of independence they could not otherwise achieve. Volunteer Wheels is funded through our service contract with Sonoma County Transit and community contributions.

In addition to the consulting services offered, our team provided brief pro bono sessions to new member organizations and supported general information and referrals to the broader nonprofit community. Our Membership Program included free and discounted workshops for staff, board members, and volunteers of member organizations; one-on-one support and consultation services from CVNL staff; and opportunities to network with other nonprofits in the community. In 2024, there were a total of 134 CVNL member organizations, of which 18 were new members and 116 were renewed members. Another member benefit involves GrantStation. 19 CVNL members were provided discounted access to the proprietary database which supports nonprofit professionals conducting grant research and strengthens their fund development process.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
