Mission

THE ARTS COUNCIL STRIVES TO ADVANCE GREATER NEW HAVEN BY PROVIDING LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT TO OUR DIVERSE ARTS COMMUNITY. WE ENVISION A THRIVING ARTS COMMUNITY AT THE HEART OF GREATER NEW HAVEN. WE BELIEVE THAT ART, CULTURE, AND CREATIVITY ARE FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS.

Activities or mission (Part I)

THE ARTS COUNCIL CHAMPIONS A DIVERSE, REGIONAL ARTS COMMUNITY WHERE CREATIVITY THRIVES, BELIEVING THAT ART, CULTURE, AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION ARE FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS. AS THE LEADING REGIONAL NONPROFIT ARTS AGENCY, WE PROVIDE LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY FOR ARTISTS AND ARTS ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT THE GREATER NEW HAVEN COMMUNITY. ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE 100% FREE FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

  • EVERY YEAR, THE ARTS COUNCIL PROVIDES FUNDING FOR LOCAL ARTISTS AND SMALL ARTS AND CULTURE ORGANIZATIONS. OUR GRANTMAKING INITIATIVES ARE ROOTED IN EQUITY AND ACCESSIBILITY, ESPECIALLY FOR INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS OF COLOR AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN HISTORICALLY EXCLUDED FROM FUNDING. THIS YEAR, WITH SUPPORT FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS, WE LAUNCHED OUR FIRST EVER ARTIST CORPS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE BOTH FUNDING AND MENTORSHIP TO INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS INTERESTED IN CREATING PROJECTS THAT IMPACT THEIR COMMUNITY. IN ADDITION, THANKS TO THE AVANGRID FOUNDATION, WE WERE ABLE TO HELP ADVANCE THE CAREERS OF BLACK, BROWN, INDIGENOUS, ASIAN AMERICAN, AND PACIFIC ISLANDER INDIVIDUALS WORKING IN THE ARTS INDUSTRY THROUGH OUR ARTS ADMINS OF COLOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
