Mission and programs · 2025

Mission

To promote a collaborative community centered on quality housing, education, health, wellness, & opportunity.

  • Workforce Development and Adult EducationThis program supports residents in expanding their educational and career opportunities through personalized career coaching, including career assessments, resume building, and job search assistance. It also facilitates enrollment in certification programs and offers initiatives to improve digital and financial literacy. In 2025, 14 individuals enrolled in the online GED program, while 16 participated in the in-person GED program. In total, 30 individuals were served through this program.Early Childhood EducationOperated by Dixon Academy, the Howard Levine Child Development Center (HLCDC) is a high-quality early learning program aimed at preparing children for kindergarten. From August 1st,2024 May 31st, 2025, the center enrolled 125 children. End-of-year data for the 2023-2024 school year from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools indicated limited growth across all measures in the prekindergarten classrooms. During the 2025 school year, our partner Charlotte Speech and Hearing, screened 82 children, 13 of whom are now receiving therapy services and 45 of whom are enrolled in our APPLE literacy program. Pre-test results showed that 29% of these children demonstrated age-appropriate language and literacy skills, while post-test results revealed a significant improvement, with 95% achieving age-appropriate skills.K-8 EducationRenaissance West STEAM Academy serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, offering educational and enrichment opportunities to foster academic achievement. Approximately 800 students are enrolled. For the 20242025 school year, RWSA earned an overall School Performance Grade of "C" (score of 59), continuing a steady upward trajectory from a "D" in 2023. The school's strongest results were in academic growth: RWSA exceeded expected growth with an overall index of 92.9 which is the highest growth tier, marking the fourth time in five reporting years the school has exceeded growth. Reading growth exceeded expectations, and math growth met expectations. Grade-level proficiency stood at approximately 53% in math and 40% in reading, both approaching the district and state averages and reflecting the gap the school continues to close. The school also offers a variety of out-of-school time programs, including Barre Belle (15 participants), Alliance Center for Education (40), Girl Scouts (31), and Fashion Club, which served 30 students in grades 6 through 8 totaling 116 students engaged in extracurricular activities.Health and WellnessThis program aims to enhance the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of residents through community engagement, wellness initiatives, and access to supportive resources. In 2025, RWCI continued hosting neighborhood-wide events and targeted programming focused on community connection, safety, healthy living, and housing stability. Efforts included wellness walks, food distribution events, mental health support initiatives, youth and family engagement activities, and resident workshops centered on topics such as home safety, self-care, and resource accessibility. RWCI also strengthened partnerships with local organizations to expand wellness programming and increase resident access to community-based support. These efforts were designed to promote social connectedness, improve overall quality of life, and encourage long-term community stability and well-being.Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Case Management The FSS program is a work-requirement initiative designed to help participants increase their income and achieve upward mobility. It also includes a focus on older adults, offering programming that supports mental and physical wellness, leadership development, and access to resources. Participation in the program was recorded at 44 in January 2025 and 32 in March 2025.Life Navigation This voluntary program provides personalized coaching, mentoring, and resource navigation to help families set SMART goals that support educational advancement, financial stability, and access to higher-paying employment opportunities. Participation numbers fluctuated throughout 2025 due to the voluntary nature of the program. In addition to individualized case management services, RWCI launched FUTURE Forward, a resident engagement and empowerment initiative designed to build community, increase self-sufficiency, and support long-term goal achievement. FUTURE Forward sessions focused on topics such as financial literacy, workforce development, mental wellness, leadership development, stress management, and personal growth while also fostering peer connection and accountability among residents. Combined with the FSS program, Life Navigation services continued to support households through holistic coaching, referrals, and community-based programming aimed at increasing overall family stability and upward mobility. An estimated 30 volunteers supported these efforts in 2025.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all.

As filed, from the IRS e-Postcard file of 2 November 2026. The IRS publishes only each organization's most recent postcard, so earlier years are not shown. A 990-N carries no financial detail. The postcard also gives the principal officer's address, which is not shown here.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Grants received

The 10 largest by cash amount. The API serves every itemized grant.

Related organizations

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
