Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

The North Carolina Information Innovation Fund NCIIF will educate the residents of North Carolina on civic duty and election related matters, including the importance of voting in elections, national policies impacting North Carolina, how to better engage in issue-based dialogues with their elected officials, and will undertake related research.

Activities or mission (Part I)

Educate North Carolinians on civic duty and elections, including the importance of voting, national policies, engaging in issue-based dialogues with elected officials, and related research.

  • NCIIF performed extensive research to determine the priorities of critical demographic groups residing in the state and how the public views the overall effectiveness of their elected leaders in meeting those priorities. The research included voters knowledge of the voting process and recent changes to North Carolina Elections laws.

    Expenses $15,450

  • Based on our research, NCIIF learned many of the new Unaffiliated voters moving to the state were unaware of recent changes to state law that allowed them to participate in the primary election of their choice. NCIIF undertook a voter education program that included mail, digital advertising, text messaging, and phone calls to inform voters of their eligibility to vote in their chosen primary elections and the voting process. Communications also included informing voters of the new Voter ID requirement in North Carolina and how all voters had to present an ID to vote. The NCIIF website provided voter information links to the North Carolina State Board of Elections so voters could request an absentee ballot, find an early voting site close to them, or how to request an absentee ballot. NCIIF communications included no partisan references to any Party or candidate.

    Expenses $722,819

As filed on the 2024 return.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Not present in the most recent drop.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
